Mangalore, Nov 2: Eminent musician Fr Charles Vas was presented the ‘Kalakar Award 2008,’ sponsored by the Thomas Stevens Konkani Institute of Goa, Carvalho family, and Mandd Sobhann, on Sunday November 2.

Narayan Kharvi, president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, presented the award. Fr Pratap Naika of Thomas Stevens Konkani Institute, Luvi Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, Eric Ozario, former president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Stany Alvares and Arun D’Souza Ajekar, were present on the dais.



















The 64-year-old Fr Vas has been running an institution called ‘Sangeet Abhinay Academy’ in Mumbai since 1980. He was ordained a priest in 1976 and used music to spread his mission. He has to his credit more than 35 music CDs so far.

The play ‘Konn Tum Anja’, with just two actors, was staged after the awards ceremony. John M Permannur, has directed the drama. Martyn M Vamanjur, and Christopher Cascia, performed in the play.
