Mangaluru, Oct 4: Various parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts got good rainfall on Wednesday October 3. The rain was accompanied by lightning, which caused losses at different places.
The city experienced rain coupled with thunder on Wednesday afternoon. Places like Bantwal, Puttur, Dharmasthala, Vittal, Sullia, Beltangady and other places got good rain with thunder. Heavy rain with lightning was experienced in places in the outskirts of the city like Vamanjoor, Gurpur, Edapadavu, Polali, Kuppepadav etc in the afternoon. Power outages were reported from several places.
In Bantwal taluk, houses and a school suffered damage due to heavy rain and strong wind which swept the taluk on Wednesday evening. Bantwal tahasildar, Purandara Hegde, announced that loss of Rs 1.20 lac was inflicted due to these incidents. A house and cattle shed in Kula village crashed to the ground. Revenue officials have been asked to visit places in the taluk and collect actual amount of losses.
Udupi district too reported good rainfall on Wednesday. Karkala got rain with lightning. Similar reports also came in from Kundapur, Brahmavar, and Halady etc. A resident of Shettibettu in Herga said that two of his ceiling fans were burnt down due to lightning.
A house belonging to Raghu Devadiga near Munsiff court, Karkala, was struck by lightning, and loss in this connection has been put at Rs 25,000. A coconut tree near Udupi bus stand go slit from the top and then split into pieces due to lightning. Udupi went without power since afternoon to evening due to this situation.
