Kasargod, Oct 5: As per information available, Kannur international airport is almost ready in all aspects, and it will be inaugurated on December 9 this year. Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on Thursday October 4, approved the aerodrome licence issued to the airport, after which its date of inaugural was announced.
The chief minister's office announced the date of the airport's inauguration.
While efforts would be made to convince President, Ram Nath Kovind, to inaugurate the airport, modalities are yet to be worked out and consent of the concerned are yet to be obtained. After the inaugural of the airport, commercial operations are expected to begin in a few days. An international cargo complex measuring 1.05 lac square feet is currently under construction at this airport.
This airport has been provided with all modern facilities. Its runway currently is 3,050 metres long, and work on extending it to 4,000 metres have been undertaken. The airport will have 24 check-in counters, counters for dropping of self baggage, self-checking machines, 32 immigration counters, 16 customs counters and four e-visa counters, it is learnt. It has six aero bridges and the airport possesses the capability to handle big aircrafts. T he airport has also been equipped with a vast parking area.
