Udupi, Oct 7: Due to the upcoming by-election in Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency, the model code of conduct is applicable to the entire Udupi district and not just Byndoor assembly constituency, announced Udupi deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis at a press meet at DC conference hall on Sunday, October 7.
The voting for the by-elections will be held on Saturday, November 3 and counting of votes will be conducted on Tuesday, November 6. Polling is to be held in a single phase in all three districts such as Shivamogga, Bellary (ST) and Mandya where the by-elections will be held.
A notification will be issued on Tuesday, October 9. The last date of nomination is on Tuesday, October 16. The date for scrutiny of nominations will be on Wednesday, October 17. Last date for withdrawal of nominations is on Saturday, October 20. On Thursday, November 8, the election process will be complete.
Nomination will be received in District Commissioner office, Mini Vidhana Soudha, Sir M V Road, Shivamogga district.
According to the revised voters list till January, 1 2018, the total number of voters of Byndoor assembly constituency is 2, 21,972. Out of this 1,07,922 are males and 1,14,049 are females and one other. PWD voters are 1,786 and service voters are 33 in number.
The date has been extended till October 9 to add fresh names to voters list or for changing address. After that, a supplementary voters list will be presented before election commission.
There are 243 plus three auxiliary polling booths, the required Ballot units are 369, control units are 308 and VVPATs are 332. Deputy director of land records, Udupi, Srinivas has been appointed as assistant returning officer (ARO), she added.
The election code of conduct has already been announced for the polling district. It will follow all the rules and regulations, which was followed in the previous Lok Sabha polls.
Three eachm video surveillance teams, flying squad teams, static surveillance teams, sector officer teams and video viewing team are formed. One MCC nodal officer and one account expenditure team have been arranged for the peaceful and systematic election. A SVEEP committee has formed to educate voters, the DC informed.
The required officers for polling booths and staffs are PRO-246, APRO-246, polling booth officers-738 and reserved staff -123.
A complaint monitoring cell has been opened at Udupi DC office Rajathadri, Manipal to receive any kind of complaints regarding malpractices in election activities. Public can dial toll free number is 1077 and 0820-2574920 (Control Room number) and Byndoor taluk office number is 08254-2516567.
