Udupi, Oct 9: In connection with tying up of a security man of a bank ATM at Padubidri and burgling jewellery and mobile phone shops at Kelagina Pete, Padubidri in the district on September 2 this year, the police have succeeded in arresting five culprits. These arrests were made from Maharashtra on Sunday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Subhash Bheemarao Kale (26), Shankar Laguman Kale (37), Subhash Bhaskar Kale (27), Kalidas Bhaskar Kale (31), and Sunil Nana Kale (27). Six cellphones and knife used by them were seized from their possession.
All the accused belong to Kalamb village in Usmanabad district, Maharashtra. They had brought two truckloads of materials from Maharashtra to Mangaluru, and were returning when they stopped at Padubidri and burgled shops. They also bound a watchman of a nearby ATM centre to a tree, anticipating trouble from him. The police said that out of the accused, Shankar Laguman Kale faces cases of theft and burglary in Hubballi and Basaveshwara circle, Belagavi stations.
On getting reliable information about the location of thieves in Maharashtra, Kaup police circle inspector, Halamurthy Rao, Padubidri police sub-inspector, Sathish, and staff went there and took them into custody. They were produced in court after which they were remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
