Mangaluru, Oct 16: A pedestrian was killed after a motor bike hit him near Nanthoor Junction in the city on the night of Sunday October 14.

The victim has been identified as Shashidhar (44), a native of Bookanakere in Mandya district, who was working as teacher.

Shashidhar and a few of his friends were walking together for a stroll by the roadside after dinner on Sunday at around 9.30 pm when this unfortunate accident happened. Near Padua, Nanthoor, a motor bike rider, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle near Karavali Hotel, moved to extreme left of the road and knocked Shashidhar down. Shashidhar fell to the ground with force and suffered serious injuries to his head. He was immediately admitted into a hospital. However, without responding to treatments, he breathed his last on Monday.

Shashidhar, it is learnt, was a teacher of the Bookanakere government school. He is survived by wife and a daughter.

About 40 teachers from Mandya district including Shashidhar had arrived in the city to take part in Kannada workshop arranged by Azeem Premji Foundation here. The participants of the workshop were provided with lodging facility at Shanthi Kiran, Bajjodi near Nanthoor. The accident happened when the friends were taking a walk after dinner.

A case in this respect stands registered against the KTM motor bike rider, Merwin Jaikar, who caused this accident, in traffic (east) police station here.

All these kinds of tragedies can be avoided if we operate the traffic signals. Crores of Rupees have been spent with the primary objective to streamline/regulate the traffic. I have been requesting whenever I meet a Traffic Inspector “ why the traffic signal not working?” He had no answer. One Inspector even told me hold a press conference and explain the problem

Once I spoke to the Commissioner on his weekly contact with the public. I appraised the case. He did not give any positive answer.

Does our Govt want more people to die while crossing roads in Hampankatta /Kankandy/ Bendorewell,/ Near Govt College and many other places where the pedestrians are holding their lives to save themselves while crossing the roads . No vehicle driver allows the pedestrians to cross the roads as in other countries? …only with traffic signal the traffic can be controlled. Only in 2 places in Mangalore the signals are operating. Why other places no signals are there?. We call Mangalore as Smart City. Is controlling the traffic without traffic signal will support our stand as Smart City of India?

Will our authorities wake up from their so called inactive mode so that the traffic signals are operable?.

They are not bothered about ordinary citizens situation, health, food, clean Air and drinking water, roads and infrastructure etc.

Instead of protesting in front of corporation against the new slaughter house Hindu outfits should protest for nanthoor flyover and pumpwell flyover. People will bless for the good work.

    Absolutely devastating news. RIP
Its time that we learn some road traffic safety. The death from road accidents are more than people die from hunger. Something needs to be changed

The accident spot is near the St.Joseph school entrance lane a good 200 metres away from nanthoor junction towards Panambur . And it was night time and there was no traffic at all. However vehicles assume that this is a runway and speed up carelessly.
And anyway people commenting on nanthoor junction should realise that constructing flyover underpass etc,. will not change anything. The only solution is that the highway should not be allowed to pass through mangalore at all. There should speed up work on a proposed bypass road. Then this panambur to thokottu road should be handed over to the city so that signals/ speedbumps etc. could be operational here. Currently since this road is under the NHAI this place is a total mess and no MP or MLA can do anything about it.

Why the feku Nallu and shoba not barking on the death of pedestrians on this junction everyday almost?

the poor guy died just because of these feku leaders negligence. Hence both MPs are directly responsible for the death.

If they had worked towards betterment of the people, there must be proper foothpath's constructed. They might have taken the bribe from contractor and gave license to drivers to kill pedestrians. Why Fire lady is not painting the poor guys death as jihadi death?

I wanted a memorandum to be given from responsible citizens to the S.K., district, Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner, Chief Minister of Karnataka, the M.P., of S.K., district, the Highways Road Transport Minister and to the Prime Minister specifying a date of closure of Nantoor highway if not a solution is found within a specific period/time limit. I say a specific period/time limit is one and half year, no more than that whatsoever.

Supposedly they are not complying to responsible citizens, the public should take extreme step to close traffic at Nantoor circle indefinitely.

IN MY OPINION THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE REMAINED.

THE CITIZENS ARE FED UP WITH DAILY REMORSE AND HARD WAYS FACING DAILY AT NANTOOR.

    CITIZENS REQUIRED HUMANS TO SURVIVE.

FORGET THE COWS AND STOP YOUR COW GOVERNMENT'S CATTLE CLASS GOVERNANCE.
