Kuwait, Nov 7: Kunjal Friends won the Volleyball and Kuwait Konkans B won the Throwball in the KCWA Cup 2008 organized by Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) on Friday 7th November at American International School indoor court, Maidan Hawally.

In the exhilarating Throw ball matches held for ladies, 8 teams vied for the coveted title. Ever dynamic team Kuwait Konkans B emerged as true champions beating Kuwait Konkans A by 14-10 & 14-8. Earlier Kuwait Konkans A beat Jasmine Pangla and Kuwait Konkans B beat Al-Rathath in the semi-finals. 

In the keenly contested Volleyball tournament for men, in which 7 teams took part, Kunjal Friends beat Salmiya Friends A by 18-25, 25-17 & 15-8 in the finals to lift the KCWA Cup. Earlier Kunjal Friends beat Noronha Brothers A and Salmiya Friends A beat Noronha Brothers B in the semi-finals.















In the Throwball event individual awards were bagged by Jyothi Mathias (Kuwait Konkans A) as Best Catcher and Jayasheela D’Souza (Kuwait Konkans B) as Best All rounder. In Volleyball, Kiran (Noronha Brothers) won Best Defender, Samad (Kunjal Brothers) won Best Attacker and Kiran (Salmiya Friends A) won the Best All rounder awards. Winners & Runners up teams were awarded with Trophies, medals and cash prizes.

The main sponsor of the tournament were Hempel Paints Kuwait and Al-Mail Gen. Trading Co. ( James Paul). Micasha Electricals ( Michael Lewis), Rodricks Foundation (Ivan Rodricks) and Oriental Sports were the co-sponsors. Anand D’Souza of Illuminations provided the sound system.

Allen Pinto conducted the inaugural & closing ceremonies. Mahesh Prabhu and Rudy D’Souza did the announcements & running commentary throughout the day. Sports secretary Naveen Mascarenhas wonderfully coordinated the whole event. The tournament was concluded at 3:30 pm.

    Congratulations to the winning teams!!! As announced on this web site previously "Lourdes Kanajar" is organizing thier 5th successive Voleyball & Throw ball tournament on the 5th Dec. 2008 in Dubai/Sharjah. T o mark this 5th anniverary we welcome teams from Gulf countries as well & players from Karnataka origin. It would be good the winning teams of your tournament participate & give a try for this years Gulf trophy.     My Heartly Congratulations to Kunjal Friends. Especially for Anwar, Samad & Ilyas, whom I know personally for their talent in Vollyball and also these three are the best players in entire Udupi District, were playing for Manipal Friends and also their own native place KUNJAL in Brahmavara. Once again all the very best and keep up your true spirit.

    Congratulations Kuwait Konkans B' for winning the KCWA Throw-Ball Trophy, under the captaincy of Jayasheela D'Souza. You were the underdogs of the tournament but with your firm determination, and teamwork, you have achieved the success by defeating the tournament favourate, star studded, "Al-Rathath" in the semi-finals and second favourate "Kuwait Konkan 'A' in the Finals. Excellent play by Jayasheela and Freeda.
