Mangalore: 'Pingara' Kannada Weekly Completes Five Years

Mangalore, Nov 10: Pingara Kannada weekly, led by noted journalist from Taccode, Moodbidri Raymond D'Cunha, is completing five succesful years in field of Kannada journalism shortly.
As announced earlier in the daijiworld columns, for the fourth year in succession, 'Pingara Rajyotasava' award presentation ceremony is being organised in Townhall here, on November 11, 2008 at 3.00 pm
Raymond has been nursing a dream to expand the readership of his weekly, by making it available to interested readers from around the coastal cities and other parts of the world, where Kannadigas reside. According to him, the weekly may soon be converted into daily, once he is able to generate resources as per his expectations.
Speaking to daijiworld, he said, " Several periodicals are being published from the city at present. But, 'Pingara', a unique Kannada news weekly, has proved the efficacy of the concept of presenting news at weekly intervals in a more effective manner. 'Pingara', edited and published by Raymond D'Cunha since the last five years (started on January 14, 2004), has set an example for others by remaining non-violent, non-biased and secular, owning a policy of total tolerance with every community."
Specification:
At present, the paper is being brought out in the size of 33x55 cms print and a beautiful design of daily newspaper size with six pages that gives it a look of gorgeous presentation. Considering the economics involved, till now, it is being printed in black and white but with an option to print in colours too. Six pages of local, national, international and articulations of common man's daily needs as well as knowledge are published currently. The present readers are happy with the contents and presentation of the facts which are found by them to be impartial and serve the daily needs of the reader.
Dream:
The volunteers around want to see their beloved publication turn into a daily but the financial constraints may permit this dream to realize a little later. Presently a 12- page weekly may serve the purpose. Volunteers who can independently earn through the newspaper and have a zeal to serve the society at large and enthusiasm as well as interest to work in the field are needed in the editorial of Pingara from around the city and from all the states and international places like the Gulf, Europe, USA, UK, Israel etc., where the presence of the natives of the twin districts of Dakhsina Kannada and Udupi is substantial. Such people need to be interested to circulate their news in their home town Mangalore and surrounding places.
About Raymond D'Cunha:
At present, he is the sole owner of 'Pingara' Kannada weekly and runs the journal with a theme of social awareness. He holds BA, LLB degree, along with a degree in journalism from Mysore University. He is one of the directors of MCC Bank and president of Catholic Sabha unit of Episcopal City deanery.
He was born in Taccode and was the president of the ICYM unit, Taccode for three years and Moodbidri deanery for two years. He was the Jain Junior College Moodbidri union president and it is owing to his efforts and negotiations entered into with the combined Booking Service company 25 years ago that concession in bus fares was extended by private buses in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Catholic Sabha Taccode unit was started by his efforts as the Senior Youth Association Taccode was closed to pave way for the creation of Catholic Sabha of which Raymond was the first president and Titus Noronha secretery. He also happens to be the founder president of Moodbidri Working Journalists' Association and Canara Working Journalists' Assoction [DK,Udupi taluk union].
Journalism:
Worked in the field in Mangalore for Raknno as Sub-Editor for 2 years when Fr Mark Walder was the editor of the Konkanki weekly. He was also the Sub-Editor of another Konkani weekly Mithr during the editorship of Dolphy Lobo for 12 years before being appointed as the Editor of Sandesha, mouthpiece of Mangalore diocesan Catholic Sabha. He has also worked as the reporter of Janavahini Kannada daily. At present he is the reporter of www.daijiworld.com and now since the last five years he is the editor and publisher of 'Pingara.
