Bengaluru: Justice A S Bopanna, a Kannadiga, made CJ of Gauhati HC

Bengaluru, Oct 25: Senior judge of Karnataka high court (HC), Justice A S Bopanna, who happens to be a Kannadiga, has been appointed as the chief justice (CJ) of Gauhati HC. Through an order, the union law department has affected this promotion and transfer.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by CJ of India, Ranjan Gogoi, had on October 9, taken a decision to promote and post Justice A S Bopanna as the CJ of Gauhati HC, Assam and sent its recommendations to the central govenment. The union government has approved the recommendation and issued notification accordingly.

Justice Bopanna, who was born on May  20, 1959, had started practicing in 1984. He has expertise in civil, constitutional, company disputes and service matters. He has been a judge of the high court here since 2006.
