Dharwad, Oct 25: A blast occurred inside a concrete road at Durgashakti colony at Thimmasagara, Nekar Nagar, Hubballi, at around 9.30 am on Wednesday October 24. As an underground electric cable passes thorugh this patch and water seepage is observed, people feel that the blast occurred because of the cable.

Hescom officials however have doubts as they feel cables supplying power to households do not generate so much heat and explosion. In this explosion, both the legs of a six-year-old boy got severed. He has been identified as Rakesh Thimmappa Hoogar from Durgashakti Colony. Hoogar stands admitted into Karnataka Institute of Medial Sciences Hospital here for treatment. Another boy, Manjunath Sringeri (14) suffered minor wounds.

The blast was so powerful that the thick concrete road was ripped apart for a stretch of five feet. The police suspect that substandard underground electric cable would have caused this incident.

A case about this incident was filed in Old Hubballi police station, and investigation has been undertaken.
