Mangaluru, Oct 26: City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that he has suspended Ganesh, a police personnel working for city central branch (CCB) of his department, for being involved with a honeytrap case which happened in the city during March this year. In that incident, a retired official was forced to part with Rs 3 lac.

In that incident, the man was offered massage service at home, and when a lady attached to a massage parlour in the city was giving massage to him at his home, a couple of men had come there, captured the scene on video and demanded payment of Rs 10 lac to keep the video from becoming public. The man had paid Rs 3 lac without any resistance. The incident had happened on March 20, and six persons were arrested after the incident came to light with delay.

After the incident came to light, assistant commissioner, Rajendra, was instructed to hold inquiry under the guidance of deputy commissioner of police, Uma Prashanth, and submit a report. The report has since been submitted to the city police commissioner, and on the basis of the report, chargesheet was filed in the court on Wednesday October 24. As Ganesh's name figures in the chargesheet, he stands suspended.

The cellphone number the woman used to make calls to the retired official was in the name of Ganesh. The police commissioner had served notice to Ganesh seeking explanation to which Ganesh had clarified that he had lent the SIM to the woman as he knew her in the past.
