Puttur, Oct 26: The college annual athletic meet 2018-19 of St Philomena PU College was held on October 26 at St Philomena College ground. The annual athletic meet was inaugurated by releasing the balloons.
The president, Fr Alfred J Pinto, correspondent, Mai de deus Institutions, advised that God has given talents to everyone in different ways and these talents are helpful to reach their goal and to do good to society. He congratulated all the athletes.
The chief guest, Dayananda Rai Kormanda, a physical education teacher, Navodaya High School, Bettampady, alumnus of St Philomena College, Puttur said that this historical college ground has produced several champions who are serving the country by their talents around the world. Taking them as an inspiration, you too should use your talents and bring name and fame to the college and country.
The guest of honour, Prof Leo Noronha, principal, St Philomena College, Puttur spoke on the occasion and said, “success is not given, it is earned. Sports and games are part of life. This ground has produced international athletes worldwide." He desired that students come up in life by making use of their talents.
A very well co-ordinated and disciplined march past as well as oath taking ceremony was conducted by the students of St Philomena PU College.
Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, professor, St Philomena Centre for PG Studies and Research and warden of St Philomena Mens Hostel, Fr Sunil George Dsouza, professor, St Philomena Centre for PG Studies and Research and warden of St Philomena High School boys hostel and Prakash D’Souza and Rajesh, physical directors and other dignitaries were present on this auspicious occasion.
Fr Vijay Lobo, principal, St Philomena PU College welcomed the gathering. Dr Asha Savithri, department of Hindi, proposed the vote of thanks. Santhosh D’Souza department of Commerce compered the programme.
