Bengaluru, Oct 26: The state government has decided to wait for the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on a case before it on the issue of giving reservation-based promotions to government employees, before going ahead with the implementation of protection of reservation-based promotions act passed by it.

On the issue of implementation of the law passed by the state to negate the affect of the Supreme Court judgement which had annulled the reservation-based promotions given by Karnataka government, the cabinet meeting held on Thursday October 25 held prolonged discussions. Briefing the media persons after the meeting, minister, Bandeppa Khashempur, said that detailed discussion was held on the issue of implemented the law passed by the state, but no decision could be arrived at the SC is seized of the matter.

"Deputy chief minister, Dr G Parameshwar, raised the topic in the cabinet meeting and  threw light on the enforcement of this law. The chief minister (CM) expressed solidarity with the opinion expressed by Parameshwar. The meeting decided to wait, based on the developments underway in the SC, and take a final decision in the coming days," he s tated.

To a question, Khashempur confirmed that the state government is committed to the implementation of the law it had passed earlier to protect reservation-based promotions for scheduled castes and tribes. The state is currently observing the developments in the SC, and thee is no need to have any suspicion about the intentions of the government, he said.

The minister also stated that the winter session of the assembly session would be held during December at Belagavi, as per a decision taken by the cabinet. He said that the CM would decide the dates for the session, which will be of ten-day duration.
