Beltangady, Oct 29: A youth died after slipping and drowning in river on Sunday October 28. The incident happened at Manjotti near Nada, when the victim was returning after visiting Gadayikallu, a well-known tourist centre.

The victim happened to be Faisal (18), son of Abbas, resident of site house at Kukkaje in Bantwal taluk. This tragic incident happened when he was washing his face in the river, it is said.

Faisal, when returning home after visiting Gadaikallu, had approached the river to wash himself. After he slipped and drowned in the river, his relatives immediately rescued him and took him to the government hospital in the town. But his life could not be saved.

Faisal used to work at Mangaluru as coolie. On account of Sunday being weekly holiday, he had arrived in two motor bikes along with three of his relatives to Gadaikallu. When returning in the evening, all of them had visited the river to wash their faces.

Abbas was the eighth among nine children of Abbas. Abbas works as watchman at Mangaluru.. His postmortem was conducted in the government hospital here. A case about the incident was registered in the town police station here. This incident brought back memories of a incident which happened at Manjotti two years back, in which four persons from Kaup who had ventured into the river when returning after visiting Kajoor Dargah were dragged away by the force of water.
