Belagavi, Oct 30: Upset that the streetlights in her ward were not fixed, a Belagavi corporator climbed a high mast light pole on Tuesday, October 30 as a mark of protest.

Sarala Herekar is the corporator from ward no 41 (Sadashivanagar and surrounding areas) of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC). Accompanied by her supporters, she climbed a high mast pole with a ladder as people in her ward were facing issues due to non-functional streetlights. She also challenged the civic body to suspend her for her protest, and did not listen to come down even after police officials persuaded her.

She finally came down the pole, after BCC Commissioner Shashidhar Kurer arrived the spot and assured her that the lights will be fixed.
