Beltangady: BJP wrests power from Congress in town panchayat elections

Beltangady, Oct 31: In the results of town panchayat elections which were announced here, BJP won seven seats and came to power. Congress party which ruled during the last two terms won only four seats and faced a setback.

Congress’s Rajashree V Raman received 244 votes and defeated BJP’s Sushmitha in backward class A female reserved 1st ward. In the second ward reserved for scheduled castes, BJP’s Ambarish secured 247 votes and defeated Congress’ Ramesh. In general category 3rd ward, BJP’s Sharath Kumar received 232 votes and was declared the winner.

Henry Lobo from Congress was defeated. In ordinary female reserved fourth ward, Congress’ former member Mamatha Shetty was defeated by BJP’s Rajani Kudva by three votes.

Congress’ Janardhan Kambar received 207 votes in general category 5th ward and defeated BJP’s Ganesh. In general female reserved 6th ward, former member Mustar Janu Mehboob won after receiving 135 votes. Nasima Sanjaynagar contested from SDPI and received 129 votes. Radhika from BJP received 117 votes.

In the 7th ward reserved for schedule tribes, BJP candidate Lokesh has defeated Congress party’s Sathish Naik. In the 8th ward, reserved for backward class, former Congress member Jagadish D has received 377 votes and won. Shanker Hegde from BJP has received 177 votes. In ordinary female reserved 9th ward, Tulasi of BJP has defeated Congress candidate Prema Devadiga. BJP’s Gauri has defeated Congress’ Lata K in ward ten reserved for scheduled caste female. BSP candidate has received 81 votes. In general category 11th ward, former town panchayat president Muguli Narayan who left Congress and contested as independent is defeated. BJP candidate Jayananda Gowda has won the seat.
