Udupi: AICU flag handed over to Shivamogga diocese

Udupi, Nov 1: President of Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, Alwyn Quadras handed over the All India Catholic Union (AICU) flag to Antony Wilson, president, Catholic Association, Shivamogga diocese on Wednesday, October 31. AICU has organised a flag rally for national integration to mark the completion its centennial year.

The event was held at Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh hall.

Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, spiritual director said, “There is a need to unite to promote Christian religion. Let us serve the society with truth and honesty. AICU is organising a rally for spreading a message on national integration.”

Antony Wilson said, “We have completed 100 years with the blessings of God. In comparison, the working style in Mangaluru, Udupi and Shivamogga is different. In Shivamogga, Christian community people are very less in number. We are working to reach the government’s facilities to people of the society. We are involving youth in our union in more numbers.”

AICU is a platform for building unity. Recently, Mangaluru diocese handed the flag to Udupi diocese.

The representatives of 51 units were present on the occasion.

Valerian Fernandes received an award from Lancy D'cunha. The award was given for helping underprivileged children under Udupi Catholic Sabha in 2016-18.

Lancy D'Cunha, national president, AICU delivered the keynote address.

Deepak D'Souza, state secretary of AICU, Dr Jerald Pinto, national coordinator of AICU and others were present.

Alwyn Quadras extended welcome. Maxim D'Souza, general secretary, Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh proposed the vote of thanks.
