Dubai: ‘Konkan Yuva Fest 2008’— Laying Stress on Youth Entrepreneurship

Dubai, Nov 14: ‘Konkan Yuva’, a vibrant Catholic youth organization celebrated their annual event, ‘Yuva Fest 2008’, under the leadership of its president Godwin Castelinho, on Friday November 14, at the banquet hall of Karama Hotel, here.
Every year Konkan Yuva, organizes an educational and entertainment session and this year the focus was on entrepreneurship and risk. The event started with a prayer song by members. The chief guest was Albert Rodrigues, managing director, Millennium Insurance Brokers LLC, and key member of Kanara Entrepreneur Ltd (KEL).
The keynote speaker was Ivan Fernandes, chief executive officer, DUCONT, and former president of KEL. Deepak Machado, introduced Fernandes to the audience. In his address, Fernandes spoke about successful entrepreneurs and his journey towards becoming one. He also spoke about KEL with regard to promoting entrepreneurship.
An interactive question and answer session followed the speech. As a token of appreciation, Fr Freddy D’Souza, assistant parish priest, St Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubai, offered a memento to Fernandes. Fr D’Souza then spoke and encouraged the youths to be successful entrepreneurs.
On this occasion, sponsors and co-sponsors, as well as media sponsor Daijiworld.com were felicitated. Konkan Yuva’s very own ‘Unplugged Team’ , comprising Deepak Machado, Anup, Kevin, and Lancy D’Souza entertained the participants with some old Hindi and Konkani numbers sans any electrical instruments.
Spot games, and group games were also part of the entertainment session. Shylan Group, under the leadership of Lancy and Shyna Noronha, along with Arun Carlo, Santan Fernandes, Lovelyn D’Mello, Bella Pinto, Mamtha D’Souza, and Deepak Machado, entertained the crowd with lovely Hindi, and Konkani numbers. DJ Anup Pinto too played some good music.
Godwin Castelinho thanked everyone who helped make the event a success. Linette Pinto, secretary, Konkan Yuva, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with a Baila dance session. The entire event was professionally compered by Joel Saldanha and Bennet Pereira. ‘Konkan Yuva King and Queen’ contest was also part of the celebrations. Joel Sequeira was chosen Konkan Yuva King and Juliana the Konkan Yuva Queen.
