Kadri Devara Kambala in Kadri Mangalore and Madhav Ananta Jodukere Kambala in Manipal , organized on Sunday, November 30, 2008 has attracted thousands of people to witness one of the most spectacular traditional events in the coastal districts.

Mangalore, Nov 30: Kadri Devara Kambala was held on Sunday November 30 at a venue located close to Kadri temple.
It is the only venue located in an urban area while the other venues are exclusively located in the rural areas that makes it a unique Kambala. It offered the town folks the glimpses of heroic sport that was prevalent since many centuries in Tulunadu.
Kadri Kambala originated during the Alupa dynasty that ruled Tulunad three centuries ago while Kadri Kambala Guttu lineage continued the tradition of holding Kambala ever since. It derives its significance from Sri Manjunatheshwar temple located in the vicinity.
Gurpur Kedubari Guruvappa Poojary , bagged the gold medal in Kanahalage category while Kondana Narayana Rai bagged the gold medal in Hagga – senior competitions. Bailumegina Guttu Nagaraj Shetty bagged the gold medal in Hagga – junior competitions. They were the owners of the prize-winning buffaloes.

Udupi, Nov 30: Madhav Ananta Jodukere Kambala was held at Manipal, near here in a picturesque venue close to Mannapalla Lake, on Sunday November 30.
The galleries were packed with thousands of the buffalo race , kambala enthusiasts .of Tulunadu.
A total of 61 pairs of buffalos competed in 6 categories along with its handlers at Madhav Ananta Jodukere Kambala that was revived after the gap of a few decades.
State chief secretary Sudhakar Rao, district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA Raghupati Bhat, cine stars of both Sandalwood and Telugu cinema and others were present to view the day long Kambala.
Western tourists and overseas students had a gala time viewing the Kambala of the coastal district.
Besides the usual umpires, a third umpire was pressed into service to ajudicate doubtful cases who monitored the race from CCTV .
The boating facility at Mannapalla Lake was fully occupied by week-end visitors and Kambala enthusiasts throughout the day. South Indian and north Indian food courts were well patronized by diners at the venue.
