Mangaluru, Jan 3: Like minded organisations staged protest here at DC office on Thursday, January 3, against the merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda.

Addressing the protestors’ writer Dinesh Amin Mattu said, "Our district is recognised for hotel and banking business and the birth of five major banks took place here. Banks which were started in this region have gained profit and have never cheated anyone. Banks in this region succeeded in gaining confidence of the customers. Vijaya Bank was started in the year 1931 with the help of farmers under difficult circumstances.”

He also said, "It is unfortunate that Vijaya Bank which is in profit is merging with two banks Dena and Bank of Baroda which is under severe loss. When this move takes place, each and everyone should raise their voice and protest including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. Despite being helpless, bhakts of Modi, leaders should come out to protest against this move.”

"When this proposal came up, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel should have protested. We select representatives to be in favour of people and raise voices against the issues, but MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has failed in his duty,” he said.

"Even Janardhana Poojary should come out and speak against this issue. We select representatives and there should be followers but not Bhakts because these Bhakts will be blind. We are protesting but I know that even if we protest it won’t have much effect on the central government. As election is inching close, the voters should be aware on who closed down the Vijaya Bank and who is the reason behind its downfall,” said Dinesh Amin Mattu.

Congress leader Vijay Kumar Shetty said, "It’s really bad to see our people of the district keeping quiet on this issue. If same thing would have happened in Northern Karnataka, there people would have protested. The bank took birth on our land and we easily can’t sacrifice it. We fought for Aloysius road to be named after Mulky Sundaram Shetty, but when Vijaya Bank will be closed down, what will be the use of the protest over renaming the road.”

Former minister Ramanath Rai said, "Even the State Banks were merged and later we all know the difficulties they faced. Vijaya Bank is in profit but Dena and Bank of Baroda in under loss. Even MP Nalin Kumar Kateel failed to save the Vijaya Bank which is unfortunate. In coming days the Vijaya Bank board will be removed, which will definitely hurt us and we can say this is black day for us".

Activist M G Hegde, CPIM leader Muneer Katipalla, Mohammeed Haneef and others were present.

Many a times,Modi government seems to be, of the gujjus, by the gujjus, for the gujjus. Interest and. Name of others be damned.

Let DEna and Bob, merge with Vijaya, and retain this name.

I can understand your frustration. But Vijaya Bank is not known to occupy place of pride in banking sector at national level. So is Dena Bank. Bank of Baroda, on the other hand, has its brand equity and employees of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank will find it more beneficial to be associated with B.O.B.

And, mind you, Gujjus have kicked out Congress more than 25 years ago and they are reaping the benefits of non-Congress government.

Did everyone forget that it was Indira Gandhi who made this bank into a govt bank?
Except the name, nothing else remained after that.
    Now you are crying?
If it had remained a private bank ,there would have been no mergers.

Ramanath Rai should not politicize this issue for vote bank politics. He should understand that, his own community people didn't vote for him in last election. It is good for the bank to merge with BOB along with Dena bank. As a NRI, I am more comfortable doing business with ICICI or City bank who are exposed to online banking compared to Vijaya Bank. People wants to do more of online transaction nowadays which brings more business to bank also. After all we are in internet era, not ledger book transaction any more. Ramanath Rai never understands this. BTW, as Jaitley said, employees of bank will not be effected.

Surendra, you don't have to make me happy, express what you believe in.
Rashmi, I am the real Modi Bakth, not the faku one. If you are reading the news, right now 1 dollar = 69.54 Rupees which came down from 73 rupees since last few months. That means Government is working on it, not making money for themselves as you can see in Augusta West land, national Herald, 2G spectrum, coal scam.. list goes on and on. I am in US and proud to say that I am Modi Bakth and he made us proud outside the country by ruling the country without any corruption involved.

JK...Modi corrupt free? What a joke..You still think Rafale is a fair deal? There is lot of kickbacks involved in Rafale. Don't tell me that supreme court gave clean chit to Modi on Rafale. We know how these institutions are used for the ruling government either by Congress or by BJP. Why Anil Ambani's 10 day old company was given contract? Is it not because Ambani's closeness to Modi? Why HAL was ignored inspite of the fact that HAL has capacity. I am not telling this. HAL head has commented that HAL is capable. Why the contracts are going to Mukesh and Adani? There are no other big companies in India? Swatch bharath cess money going where? Ganga is still dirty. Achievements of Modi for five years is communal unrest, screw up of economy, corruption, self advertising, fake promises, blaming previous governments and foreign trips. This government is anti poor and anti middle class people. We know the impact of Modi government in India as we face the brunt of increasing prices.

The story of Vijaya Bank is somewhat similar to the iconic watch brand (Hindustan Machine Tools) HMT 'timekeepers of the nation' since 1961. Once known to be a cradle of banking Vijaya Bank serving nation for 87 years to the nation with a tagline ' A friend you can bank upon' the man, bowing humbly with hands in his pockets is finally going to RIP thanks to failed economic policies of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government.

In 1969 the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi government nationalised 14 major private banks, one of the big bank was Bank of India. In 1980, 6 more private banks were nationalised. Till 1969, the State Bank of India (SBI) was the only bank that was not privately owned. It was called the Imperial Bank before its nationalisation in 1955. The 14 banks controlled 70 percent of the country’s deposits. In 1980, six more banks were nationalised. (Imperial Bank had been nationalised in 1955, making it the State Bank of India.)

While there is no doubt that the nationalisation of banks led to credit being channelised to agriculture and small and medium industries, the Act also resulted in a lot of delegated legislation.

Due to the Bank Nationalisation in India by Indira Gandhi in July 1969, India was relatively insulated while the world faced a financial crisis.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a blistering attack on the Nehru-Gandhi family at a rally here ahead November 28 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh says, Indira Gandhi's Bank Nationalisation Was Fraud.
Today more than 26 nationlised banks in India is going to be merged by the PM Modi government. Any merger is equivalent to major job cutdown. Our own pride Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank after nationalisation since then saw the growth never saw jobs loss.
But today the 87 years of service is going to be history. Hope Vijaya bank employees end of service benefits are safe.
    Jai Hind

These Mangalore based politicians are good for nothing. They can fight for name changing of Light House Hill Road because the defenders are weak. They cannot fight Modi because he is determined to pass on the losses due to Nirav, Mallya, Adani, Ambani, Modi type of non-refundable loans to poor account holders in Vijaya Bank and State Bank.
