Kasargod, Jan 4: The unsavoury incidents which had occurred during the Thursday state Hartal call given by Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa devotees and Sangh Parivar outfits have been recurring. On Thursday January 3 night, three youth were attacked at Manjeshwar. In this backdrop, district collector, Sajit Babu, has issued prohibitory orders under section 144. of Criminal Procedure Code in Manjeshwar taluk limits. In addition, holiday has been declared for all the schools in Manjeshwar taluk on Friday January 4.

Three persons, two at Kadambar Manjeshwar, and one at Kumble Shiriya were injured by stabbing them on Thursday night.

Guruprasad (23) and his friend, Kiran Kumar (40) were attacked by a gang of men which came in three motor bikes at Kadambar on Thursday night. Both stand admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru. Vasant from near Kumble Shiriya was stabbed and injured. He too was taken to a Mangaluru hospital. When the gang tried to attack Charan, he tried to stop them. He too was stabbed with a knife.

The district administration, which took stock of the worsening situation, decided to clamp prohibitory orders in Manjeshwar taluk and declare holiday for schools there on Friday. The district collector has issued orders to the concerned, instructing them to take stern steps against miscreants indulging in acts of violence.

It may be recalled that widespread violence had erupted at seveal places in Manjeshwar taluk during the Hartal on Thursday.

Abdul Karim (48) had been attacked by a gang at Bayaru Muligadde. Karim has been admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru. Imtiaz (29) from Kadambar Gandhinagar had been assaulted by a gang. He was manhandled for questioning people who were burning tyres and creating road blocks.

Manjeshwar, Uppala, and Bandyodu area had witnessed several violent incidents on Thursday. Supporters of the Hartal call had vandalized over 30 shops and establishments, besides damaging over 20 vehicles which included cars, auto rickshaws, and motor bikes. The police faced hard time in controlling the situation. The police have so far arrested over ten people in connection with these incidents.

In view of the continuance of such incidents, the police personnel have been keeping a close vigil on the situation in Kasargod and Manjeshwar taluks. Close monitoring has been undertaken in sensitive areas. Holding of protests and coming together of crowds has been banned in an effort to bring back normalcy.
