Kundapur, Jan 4: The results of the by elections of three gram panchayats in the taluk of Byndoor, which created lots of speculations, are declared. Two gram panchayats are bagged by BJP, while the Congress had to content with one. In the Keral gram panchayat, Congress has won the election that was held for one vacated seat.

Re election was held for Byndoor, Yedthere and Gangolli gram panchayats as the election was withheld for these gram panchayats due to some legal issues. Candidates of both BJP and Congress had campaigned vociferously before the elections as these elections were prestige issue for both the major political parties ahead of the coming Lok Sabha elections.

In the Gangolli gram panchayat BJP supported candidates won 23 seats out of the total 33. Congress secured six seats and SDPI won four seats.

In Byndoor gram panchayat elections, BJP won 17 out of the 21 seats and the rest four were won by Congress.

The Yedthere gram panchayat elections, which was a prestigious one for BJP, was surprisingly won by Congress. Out of the total 25 seats, Congress candidates won 19 seats. BJP had to be content with six seats. Congress had won 18 seats in this gram panchayat in the last elections.

EVMs were used in the elections this time. The counting of votes was held at the Ambedkar Sabha Bhavan at Bayamadoor on the morning of Friday, January 4. Byndoor tahsildar Kiran Gowraiah gave the green signal for the counting of votes.
