Udupi: No dual stand on entry of women to Sabarimala: Pejawar Swamiji

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Jan 4: Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math on Friday, January 4, dismissed allegations that he has adopted dual stand regarding the entry of women into Sabarimala temple.

Speaking at a press conference held at Pejawar Math, he said that he has not adopted any sport of dual stand, but has remained steadfast in his opinion. “I am not opposing the writings on religion. I too have violated them and the traditions. I have visited Dalit colonies, and agreed to ban Made Snana and Ede Snana at Sri Krishna Math. I have also changed some practices.

"But I am confused what to say over the court verdict in Sabarimala issue. Decision such as this cannot be taken by a secular government or the court. However, I do not insult the entire women community. There was permission for entry over certain age limits in the past. We only say that women in other age brackets should not enter. Leaders of Hindu communities should have a discussion and take a decision in this connection. BJP and Congress also oppose them. They should value the sentiments of Hindu community. Government should refrain from unnecessary stubbornness.

“Lord Ram knew that Sita was holy and innocent. But he sent her to forest because of the demand of citizens. Similarly the government should respect tradition. Neither the court nor the government have asked the opinion of people. Let the government conduct survey in this connection. Kerala government will definitely lose it.

“I am not against religious teachings. Let them ask the opinion of people. What right do they have to change Hindu teachings? Let there be a meeting of religious leaders. This much stubbornness for the government is not right,” he said.

On reporters’ query that CPI won the recent elections in Kerala, Swamiji said that let there be elections on the basis of this topic. “Let them collect opinions with discussion of religious leaders. I have taken a stable stand. I will oppose if any tradition is harmful. While untouchability is unjust, talak also is wrong. Both the practices are inhuman.

I have supported the protests urging to find missing fishermen in Malpe. I will however protest in the way saints do,” he said.

“I am prepared to go to Delhi to speak about it. I will speak about to local MP also,” he said.

    Dear Nawaz, Udupi/ Kuwait,

    YOU SHOULD NOT MISUNDERSTAND WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN:

    Christians are the only one faith in the whole world prays to the ALMIGHTY GOD IN ONE'S OWN MOTHER TONGUE.

    In most of the churches mass service is offered in their mother tongue or in their known language.

    At the out set you appreciated and later you have doubts.

    EVERY CHRISTIAN PRAYS TO GOD IN THEIR OWN MOTHER TONGUE.

    PEOPLE ARE WELL AWARE OF WHICH MASS IS OFFERED IN WHICH LANGUAGE AND IN WHICH CHURCH AND PEOPLE PREFER TO MOVE TO THAT SAME CHURCH.

    MOST OF THE PEOPLE ARE KNOWING ENGLISH SO THEY CHOOSE THEIR OWN KNOWN LANGUAGE OR THEIR OWN MOTHER TONGUE SERVICE OFFERED CHURCHES.

    In Kuwait there are churches. Holy Family Cathedral Church, St.Daniel Comboni Church, most of the priests are from USA & from Kerala, Tamil Nadu . There are separate, separate services. In English, malayalam, Konkani, Telugu, Hindi. In the Europe services are conducted in English, French, Spanish, German, Russian etc., etc.,

    In which tongue you do pray.
    Is it not Exclusively in Arabic???!!!
    Yes. Allah knows only Arabic.
    Look, all over the world Namaaz/Salat is offered exclusively in Arabic and not in any other languages.
    Open any translated quran into other languages the name of your worshipping Deity is Allah.

    Where was Allah prior to the invention of Arabic.
    Arabic was invented in the 1st century.
    Now don't connect to Eli, Eloh or to Elohim Allah. This connection was made by man and not from God.

    @Joseph,

    Calm down man. It was you who started to comment out of context. Now don't get angry and talk baseless things when I had some doubts regarding your comments.

    Now, Quran is in Arabic language. That doesn't mean that Allah knows only Arabic. Allah knows all languages. Allah is not even dependant on any language either.

    First of all, be informed that we read the Quran in our prayers in Masjid. So suppose, a person who speaks language "X" visit a Masjid in a country where the people speak language "Y". So, suppose, If the people of that country, as you want, read the Quran in language "Y" in Masjid, then that person who speaks language "X" is unable to understand that language "Y". So Arabic is used as Universal anguage for prayers so that any person from any part of the world can understand the prayers and can offer prayers together with a person of any language, irrespective of his mother tongue.

    That means, if a person comes from Saudi and one more person comes from USA; and visits a Masjid in India, then that Saudi citizen and US citizen offer prayers with Indian man in the Universal language of Arabic. This is not possible if we segregate the prayer gatherings based upon the mother tongue. This encourages the concept of universal brotherhood.

    Further, for personal prayers, we can use any language as per our convenience.

    Now you decide which is the best option for you. It's up to you to go according to your wish.

    @Joseph,

    You said- "Where was Allah prior to the invention of Arabic."

    I think you mean to say that Arabic language started in 1st century, and Allah is an Arabic word, and so there was no concept of Allah before Arabic language came into existence.

    I don't know what type of logic is that. Allah is a proper noun. So, it is written as Allah even in other languages, even before Arabic language was started.

    But I don't believe that Arabic was started in first Century. Give any reference if you have.

    As Swamiji said- Even though Sri Ram knew that; It was a tradition followed by the people of Sri Ram's kingdom. So Sri Ram had to follow that. This is my interpretation from Swamiji's press conference. Please excuse me if I am wrong; and correct me accordingly.

    As there was no reply to query, I would like to reply on your query. But, this is what I have learnt from some sources, which may not be authentic. Daiji readers, Please excuse me, if I am wrong; and correct me accordingly.

    Valmiki Ramayana and Tulsidasa's Ram Charit Manas are 2 books containing the story of life of Lord Rama and other sub stories. While Valmiki Ramayana is considered to be the original source of Lord Rama's story, Ram Charit Manas is said to be written by Tulsidas, as heard from Lord Hanuman.

    Valmiki Ramayan portrays Ram as a Kshitriya; and in a human form without omniscience. But Ramcharitmanas portrays Ram as supreme omniscient Brahman displaying human nature as a part of Leela.

    Court doesnt mean a simply some village people.but they also decide about people s interest.They discuss and see what is good and bad,and speak out .when court finds about womens entry to a temple doesnt harm ,then they allow them to.why should be in a age of mens .shouldnt entry?They dont dirty there.They only pray.as others.Many years back women were not allowed during menses to enter houses in Hindus.But now noone cares ,and not able to nowadays when both have to work.So change your minds you religious heads or men,.Give rights to women too.God too will bless you for this.

    @Rita,

    The practice of not allowing girl/ woman inside the house during menses is still in places in northern India. I have read a news just recently that a girl, during her menses, died when she was forced to stay outside the house during rain storm.

    @Nawaz ,Udipi,we should forget about North Indians practics.because they are not yet still educated or civilized enough.How many girls and women are still harassed by men there?Big landlords too harass workers and kill .sad enough Women in India have to wait for some decades or centurys to developements to get rights in North.as well as elsewhere.It is still a bullock cart times there.

    @Rita,
    You said that- "why should be in a age of mens .shouldnt entry?They dont dirty there.They only pray.as others."
    It can be understood that this is not the matter of dirt as you said. If it were to be the matter of dirt... then, the women would not have been allowed in any other temple during menses on the basis of same reason.
    Meanwhile, a restriction on any sex, be it male or female, need not always be considered as a form of oppression against that sex. But there should be any logic/reason behind that.

    All these things happened just to gain political benefits. First created by BJP and it's gang members. Now some foolish people show their stupid act. You can serve God everywhere, at any time, and in any language. The only one thing the almighty God want is pure, clear, sinless, and loving heart and prayers.

    God does not care about your gender, money, your political status, educational qualification, or citizenship. God wants us all to live loving, caring, and helping each other. Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikhs, or any religion.

    From this press conference, I learnt two things from Swamiji -

    1) Talaq (divorce) is wrong.
    2) Lord Ram knew that Sita was holy and innocent. But he sent her to forest because of the demand
    of citizens.

    In the second case, Swamiji justified sending the woman to the forest in the name of tradition.
    But, in the first case, Swamiji is against sending the woman out of her house.

    Whereas, in both the cases, the both women were in the same situation of being innocent and had to leave their house as per the decision of their husbands.

    Could any of the learned readers explain me the reason behind that stance of Swamiji; as i am feeling it difficult to understand and confused totally.

    According to Muslim tradition and by their holy book they can sacrifice a goat, lamb, cow or bull as per their preference on holy days then why BJP is going against their tradition of cows being sacrificed and its meat eaten. Even triple Talaaq is a tradition and per holy books of Muslims then why BJPis doing against their tradition?????...New year and other festivities are celebrated as tradition and dance parties are conducted as per tradition responisibly then why BJP is interfering with others tradition. Is it BJP tradition to impose BJP tradition on others and others can not practice their own tradition independently??.????????...

    @Swamy,

    For your knowledge:
    Triple talaq is not at all a tradition according to any holy books of Islam. It was a practice used by some people who don't know their own religion. In Islam, the tradition can never overrule any teachings of the religious scriptures.
