Mangaluru, Jan 5: Rakesh (26) from Urundadigudde, who was murdered at Maladi Panjimogaru on Thursday night, appears to have been hacked to death by the elder brother of a girl he was in love with. As per the assessment of the police, Sunil and his associates, who are the murder-accused, escaped after killing Rakesh.

Rakesh used to do steel bar bending job. It is said that he was in love with the younger sister of Sunil since sometime. When Sunil was in jail relating to a case, Rakesh used to visit his home on a daily basis. Sunil, who came to know about the love affair, had warned Rakesh against continuing with it over phone, it is said.

Sunil called Rakesh over cell phone on Thursday and asked him to come to Panjimogaru to discuss certain important issues. Rakesh went to Maladi Road in his scooter where he was intercepted by Sunil and others. The two fought over the love affair of Rakesh at the end of which Rakesh was attacked with machete. He died on the spot.

Kavoor police, who swung into action, succeeded in detaining some people later, details of which are yet to be revealed.

Sunil and Rakesh were friends in the past but had parted ways thereafter. Rakesh was in jail relating to ganja trafficking in Kavoor and Bengaluru in the past. Sunil too has been facing some cases, and had secured bail recently.
