Dubai: Ashok Anchan Re-elected President of Billawa Balaga

Dubai, Jan 11: Keeping in line with their commitment and policy, the official representative of Billawa community in Dubai, Billawa Balaga Dubai formed a new committee for 2009. The committee members unanimously voted for three important amendments to their well drafted bye law. Under advice and guidance from senior Billawa social worker DK Anchan from Mumbai, it was decided that only three members from the existing executive committee would retire against the earlier law of retirement of all five executive committee members every year. This was to ensure that the new executive committee has the support and thought process guidance from preceding committee as well.

The meeting started with general secretary Ashwin Salian opening the forum for nomination / voting. Co- founder Daya Kirodian made the opening remark that the leadership is open to all and the only criteria to be a leader is to have leadership quality and integrity. He said that the leadership in Balaga is not measured with financial status of a person but with the historical record of integrity.

Fourty Eight members of the working committee who attended the meeting voted in favour of the amendment and decided that the President and Treasure shall continue to be part of the new committee for 2009 and allow the general secretary, Joint secretary and assistant treasure to retire.
With new draft on the bye law Ashok Anchan was re nominated as President for 2009 of Billawa Balaga Dubai and Vijith Attavar continues as Treasurer.
The second amendment proposed was to expand the executive committee to six members from the existing five members by creating the post for Vice President. This was proposed by Chandrashekar M. All committee members voted in its favour and Suchit Kumar immediately proposed the name of Chandrashekar M to be the first Vice President. The same was voted in favour by committee members and Chandrashekar M was nominated as Vice President.
Outgoing general secretary Ashwin Salian proposed Madhav Hejamady who has been a very active member of Billawa Balaga Dubai to the post general secretary. This was seconded by Ashok Bailoor and voted in favour by the committee.
Another active member B N Naresh was nominated as Joint Secretary and Thimmappa Poojary as assistant Treasurer.
The working committee also nominated the office bearers and working committee members for 2009. The third amendment voted in favour was to reduce the minimum residency stay in Dubai from five years to three years for any person to participate in executive committee.

Bhaskar Poojary who has been very active and has done wonderful job in helping the PR and Media team was nominated to assist in both category teams of Media and PR.

The new working committee was made by including many new members who have joined Balaga last year.
Founder Sudhakar Thumbay and Daya Kirodian along with outgoing general secretary spoke on the occasion and wished the new committee good luck and success. Ashok Anchan, Chandraskear M and Madhav Hejamady also spoke on the occasion.
All members were briefed on the Bahrain Gulf Billawa Samavesha and the future plans of the federation of Billawas in Middle East.
