Mangalore: St Aloysius Former Students Celebrate Founders' Day

Mangalore, Jan 13: St.Aloysius College Alumni/ae Association, dearly known to the former students as SACAA, held a gala evening of fun and games, fellowship and dinner meet on the 12th of January 2009 on the SAC High School Grounds. This day is also celebrated as the Founders’ Day which marks the 129th year of the establishment of St.Aloysius College.

Led by a prayer by Fr.Melwyn  Pinto SJ, Headmaster of the SAC High School, the program started off to a brief formal function . Mr.Edmund Frank, the President of SACAA welcomed the gathering, the Annual Report was presented by Mr.Michael D’Souza, Secretary. A cheque of Rs.1,00,000 was presented to Fr.Francis Serrao SJ the Rector towards multifarious projects of SAC.


























While on projects, Frank  announced that SACAA has undertaken to have a swimming pool meeting international standards on the Campus of SAC. The fund-raising is on, he added.

This was followed by an address by Fr.Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal of SAC and the Director of SACAA.

The 50th issue of the bi-annual Konkani Research Journal “Amar Konkani,” published by the St.Aloysius  Institute of Konkani  and presently edited by its Executive Director Mr.Edwin JF DSouza, was released by Prof.Alban Castelino, former faculty of SAC and also the former Editor of the Journal.

Rector in his message that followed lauded the work done by SACAA, which has about sweven thousand members, towards the College and also briefed the 500 plus audience on the various mega projects taken up by SAC.

The vote of thanks was by Arthur D’Souza, Vice-President of SACAA.

The formal program thus concluded gave way to the gala fun & games extravaganza conducted by SACAA Executive Committee Member Rtn.Edwin JF DSouza, Aloysian Sumith Rao and ably assisted by Allan Colaco, Cyprian Pinto and Jane DSouza.

    Happy to know about the wonderful evening on Jan 12th at SACA. Agree with Ruchir Agarwal, that, maybe next year some more publicity through Daijiworld months before can pull in the old students from the western countries, to make an extraordinary event.

    It was a wonderful evening onJan 12th at SACA.The M.C was very good and programmes too.The food too was yummy .The entry tickets were very reasonably priced.The crowd was a little less this year.Maybe next year some more publicity through DAIJI months before can pull in the old students from the western countries.
