Bengaluru, Jan 26: A woman was killed and six others including three in critical conditions were hospitalised in Kolar after they allegedly consumed 'prasada' at a local temple in Chintamani town in Chikkaballapur district on Saturday, January 26.

The deceased has been identified as Kavitha (28) and three patients in the ICU have been identified as Gangadhar V and his children Ganavi and Charan. Three others who have abdominal discomfort and pain have been admitted to the hospital.

The incident happened at the Chintamani Gangamma temple in Naarasimhapete when 'Kesari Bath' as 'prasada' was distributed to the devotees on Friday. The Chintamani town police station received a stress call around 10 am and the police rushed to the spot and took the victims to the hospital.

The temple priests told the police that the Kesari Bath was not prepared at the temple premise, but was brought by some of the devotees that was prepared outside. The priests are being questioned by the police.

Police have detained three persons in connection with the poisoned prasada. They have sent the samples of prasada to the Forensic Science Laboratory.

Chikkaballapur deputy commissioner Anirudh Sravan P and superintendent of police Karthik Reddy are at the temple inquiring about the incident.

The police are also probing if the victims had consumed food from somewhere outside and started complaining of abdominal pain and discomfort after reaching the temple.
