The comments on Mr. KK Pai have been fully deserving of his personality, character and achievements. One can immediately notice how communal bias disappears when one deals with icons such as these. The younger professionals of today must take a leaf from Mr. Pai's life and career. Professional success is determined by the singleminded devotion one maintains towards ones goal, with a similar devotion to the moral values he/she holds on to, all throughout ones career. Wealth may happen to come ones way as a bi-product of all this, but that is never what one will be remembered for (as one can note from the life of the well-known iconographer /historian/scholar, Dr.Gururaj Bhat, for instance).

It is a very sad news indeed to note of the demise of doyen of banking industry and a noted Social worker Sri.K.K.Pai . It is difficult to estimate how many lives he has helped in his life which was until his last day. Rarely do you find personalities who are great professionals yet people-persons. He was known for his hard work, connecting people and extraordinary pragmatism. His memeory and sense of humour was stupendous. For me personally he was the guiding spirit in 101 different ways. To imagine or visualise that he is no longer with us is hard to accept. I can only pray like countless people around that this great soul rests in peace.

This he did while undergoing treatment in KMC. He has been very kind and helpful to our family. I am sure many more have been his beneficiaries. I along with members of my family salute him.

I must reiterate what others have said in the obituary - We certainly have lost a great personality and a humble human being who never discriminated any person on the basis of their caste, creed or language. I am a living testimony to what is written above – “…he was accessible to all who sought his help...” and wish to share a very personal encounter with him. In the year 1975, during his tenure as MD of Syndicate Bank, he was elected President of 11th All Indian Konkani Parishad reception committee. In one of the meetings I gathered courage to talk to him and asked him whether he can issue a small ion in my Konkani Short story collection book - Jeevan Sapna to be published by my Ujwal Prakashan. He asked me what my profession was otherwise. I said I am a student. He just smiled and took my details. After a week I was shocked to receive a cheque for Rs. 1000 which was actually my cost to print 5000 copies in those days. My excitement was beyond description here. I took the cheque to the local branch of Syndicate Bank where my distant cousin was the Manager. My brother refused to honour it as it was drawn in the name of Ujwal Prakashan which neither had a legal status or a bank account. I had no option but to approach Shri K.K. Pai again. To my great surprise, he called my cousin and instructed him to pay me cash. This incident may seem too personal, but I felt I should write about it to reflect the true persona of a great personality. It would be my privilege to reproduce the book, in which the advertisement of Syndicate Bank will remain intact, in the font and design it was printed 33 years ago, as a lasting monument in his memory. May his soul rest in peace.

Today I am sad because, we have lost one of the finest human beings and a great banker from our community. Late Shri K.K.Pai is directly responsible for prosperity of our family as he offered a job to my poor father at a very young age. Due to his timely help, my father could provide college education to his brother and now my cousins and my own brothers are well settled in USA & UK. May his soul rest in peace.
