Kundapur, Jan 16: In connection with the murder of an entrepreneur named Subraya Honnavar (58) on the JLB Road here near Shastri Circle on the night of Wednesday January 14, the policemen have taken two persons into custody.

Honnavar had been gunned down and the motive of murder remains mysterious as he apparently had no enmity with any one. The local police who had visited Talapady, where Honnavar reportedly  was running a petrol bunk for some time in the past under partnership, have taken his partner in the said bunk and also the son of the partner into custody for interrogation. The policemen are also exploring various angles to determine the purpose of murder for closing in on the possible murderers.

Subraya, who was a native of Honnavar, served in the postal department for several years before leaving the job and opening a footwear shop in Kundapur. Later, he joined Abubakker as partner in running  a petrol bunk in Talapady. His wife Susheela G Shiralikar is the headmistress of a school in Tekkatte near here. Honnavar also reportedly worked as a commission agent for land deals. Susheela in a complaint filed with the police, alleged that her husband and his partner in the said petrol bunk had some differences of opinion between them, relating to the business.

The police feel that the murder was prima facie  committed by professional sharp shooters, considering the way the murder was committed and its location. The policemen have erected barricades at strategic points and are carrying detailed inspection of vehicles. At present, the policemen are of the view that the murder was committed because of business rivalry or misunderstanding in business dealings.
