Mangalore: Catholic Sabha Presents ‘Melvyn Peris Nite’  at Anjelore

Mangalore, Jan 18: ‘Melvyn Peris Nite’, a Konkani musical extravaganza, was held on Sunday January 18, to a packed audience of music buffs at Angelore Guardian Angels parish open grounds. It was organized by the Angelore Guardian Angels parish unit of the Catholic Sabha, to mobilize funds for their social welfare activities. 

Catholic Sabha units that are set up in almost every parish across the diocese here engage in empowering the community in all fields. They provide academic support to economically weaker students, create social, health, legal and political awareness, besides felicitating the successful community brethren for their remarkable achievements. 

Peris has evolved into a legendary singer of Konkani music over the past many years. He has been nurturing his musical talents since his school days with the support of veteran musicians in the city.

Peris delighted music lovers on Sunday evening with both old and new Konkani songs.

Sangeet Guru Joel Pereira provided playback singing along with Rony Crasta, Joseph Pinto, Michael Miranda, Nester Peris, Anita Samson, Zeena Pereira, Babitha Pinto, Lavita Lobo, Carroll Miranda, Divina Fernandes, and Edith D’Souza.          

Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto Angelore enthralled the audience with their choicest of jokes and mimicry. ‘Naach Sobhann’ dance troupe staged a show during the intervals in the concert.     

Konkani songs ‘Marjori’, ‘Putha ani Chali’, ‘Dadbad Naach’, ‘Hai Katakata’, ‘Soro Sod’, ‘Gadi Avaipanachim’, ‘Kaccha Padinth’, ‘Mogachem Mol’, ‘Indian Politics’, ‘Nisha’, ‘Mogachim Laram’, ‘Prai’, ‘Mogak Swatantr Na’, ‘Hanger Thanger’, ‘Vel Na Busy’ and ‘Anna Mariya–A Manglura Amcha’, were sung by Melvyn Peris assisted by Roshan D’ Souza (lead guitar), Theo Alvares (trumpet),  Ashith Pinto (base guitar), Dilraj Rodrigues (rhythm guitar), and Melvyn Fernandes (drums).      

Earlier, a one-minute silence was observed for singer Ivan Noronha, dubbed the Mohammed Rafi of Konkani music, who passed away recently.

Angelore parish priest Fr Stany D Lobo, parish Catholic Sabha unit president Mary Patrao, and secretary P A Fernandes, were present on the dais during the stage programme.

Acclaimed compere Leslie Rego Bendore conducted the event.
