Mangalore, Jan 19: St Sebastian church, Permannur near here witnessed celebrations connected with three significant occasions on the evening of  Sunday January 18.

The annual procession in preparation for the annual feast to be held on Wednesday January 21 was taken out from the chapel to the church premises on Sunday evening.  Over 5,000 parishioners as well as their well wishers, who arrived from nearby parishes, became a part of this colourful procession.

Vicar general Fr Dennis Moras Prabhu , Diocesan chancellor Fr Henry Sequeira and other dignitaries including MLA U T Khader graced the occasion.  The welcome arch erected at the National Highway 17 leading to the church was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Parish priest Fr Thomas D’Souza celebrated his 55th birthday on this occasion. Fr Clement Mascarenhas wished Fr Thomas on behalf of the entire parish and well wishers and lauded his great developmental and spiritual contributions to the parish in a short span of three years.

Also on this occasion, Permannur parish honoured  three community achievers from other parishes. Noted advocate M P Noronha, lawyer and political leader Ivan D'Souza and Daijiworld.com founder and Editor-in-chief Walter Nandalike were honoured for their outstading contributions to the society.

In the absence of Ivan D'Souza, his assistant Roshan D'Souza accepted the honour.

Both M P Noronha and Walter Nandalike thanked Permannur priests and parishioners for encouraging and appreciating social achievers, thereby inspiring parishioners to strive more for the betterment of the society

Joseph D Souza introduced the distinguished personalities.

Permannur parish council vice president Harry Tellis proposed vote of thanks and Fr Victor compered the programme.

Yes, as George wrote, please correct the kannada used. It should be Devarannu and not Devarige. I hope the correction will be done swiftly before many comment on it. Thank you.

It ia nice to see such a large crowd gathered for these celebrations even though Permannurians were beaten up by reckless police with the help of Bajarangis few months ago. Keep the good spirit and unity, I salute you!

I congratulate the Parish Priest and the parishioners of St Sebastian church, Permannur for the feast and for organizing such beautiful functions (3 occasions). However I am very sad to see the words written on the entrance of the Church in Kannada. "Banniri Devarige Aaradisona". Always Manglurians make lots of mistakes in Kannada, it is true. However when such words are painted in public places they are to be carefully written. If they dont know then someone who knows Kannada should be consulted. It is wrong to say Banniri Devarige Aaradisona rather it should be "Banniri Devarannu Aaradisona" Or Devara Aaradisona. (Devarige Namaskarisona and not Aaradisona.)Hope the concerned people do this correction before many people pass comments and laugh at it. Thank you. George.
