Sharjah: Mangalorean  Shaila Prabhu (27) Dies in Apartment Fire

SHARJAH, Jan 19: 27-year-old Shaila Prabhu, wife of Gopal Prabhu who is a Mangalorean, died after a fire broke out in their apartment in Al Badawi building, in the Al Nahda area in the city, on Friday Jan 17, 2009.

The fire was believed to have been caused by an electric short circuit in an other flat of the same  apartment, but Shaila died due to smoke inhalation.

Her husband Gopal Prabu is a committee member of Amchigele Samaj. President of the Association Ramachandra Hegde speaking to daijiworld.com, expressed his shock at the untimely death of Shaila. On behalf of Amchigele Samaj, he has offered condolences to Prabhu family at the sad demise of Shaila.

    Shaila was my niece once removed and our family remains deeply shocked by her untimely death and also by the manner in which she died. We pray that my cousin, her husband, Shaila's spouse and Shaila's sister find the strength to cope with this great loss.

    Indeed very sad news. My heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Gopal and the other members of her sorrowing family. When rent in Dubai & Sharjah are so high, I think proper electrical maintenance checks should be carried out periodically by landlords or atleast auto switchoff should be activated in case of electrical shortcircuits. Its sad that such a young life has to be sacrificed becoz of these oversights. I wonder if they have any children. My sincere sympathies.
