Mangalore: Thanks to Daijiworld Readers, Crasta Family's Dream Home Stands Up from Ruins

Mangalore, Jan 20: On Monday June 9, 2008, Estel Crasta's home in Uliya Pavoor had crashed to the ground in front of her eyes. Heavy rains coupled with speeding winds had ripped apart the tiled roof of her house that day, and as she alongwith daughter Tina and three grandchildren rushed outside to safety, grandchild Princita (7) had sustained serious injuries while the others escaped with minor bruises.
The plight of the lady was shared with the Daijiworld readers, alongwith the photographs taken by our photographer Dayanand Kukkaje. Estel's only son had died at a young age, just before the above tragedy. The family got shelter in a nearby house after the roof of their house came crashing down.
After Daijiworld came out with the plight of Crasta and laid bare the sordid details of the economic condition of the family, help came pouring in. It was heartening to know that the readers were willing to help the family to rebuild their dream house. Readers came forward voluntarily to help Estel Crasta. The contributions which were small and big were received with thankfulness and gratitude by the family. Soon, the family was left watching in disbelief as the help they received was enough to rebuild their home
With a contribution of about Rs 1,70,000 from the Daijiworld readers, Rs 25,000 compensation paid by Pavoor Uliya gram panchyat and Rs 5,000 received from CODP, the family has picked up the threads of their shattered dream and been able to put them together again, which they had once thought impossible. The family is all set to nest in their new cosy home, as the hearts of the family members are brimming with gratitude and joy.
