An Open Letter to Air India Express

An Open Letter to Air India Express

by Walter Nandalike
Jan 20, 2009

Dear readers,  In the last few days daijiworld.com has received several letters of complaint against the services of Air India Express which operates direct return flights from Mangalore to the gulf countries.  Many of the letters contained harsh comments.  Few of them were published, but most others could not be published.

Taking the matter seriously, Daijiworld Media Network Team interviewed about 125 passengers who arrived at Mangalore between December 20, 2008 and Jan 10, 2009 from Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat.

Taking it as a social responsibility, Daijiworld.com  has decided to address open letter to the Air India Express chief in Mumbai , expressing the grievances of passengers, with a hope that usual problems of passengers would be solved soon and it would also help Air India Express to serve in a better and professional way.

This letter is written on the basis of the interviews from passengers and letters of complaint received from readers.

To,

Capt P P Singh
Chief Operating Officer
Air India Express
Mumbai _ India

Subject: Inconvenience caused to AI Express passengers of Gulf destination flights from MANGALORE

Sir,

At the outset let us thank you for initiating direct flights from Mangalore to different destinations of the gulf region.  Our joy knew no bounds when the first flight was announced by you.  Our dream came true because of your initiative and support from Mangalore Airport management, and other respected leaders.

But, ever since direct flight operations began, the complains from passengers steadily started to flow in.  A few of our concerns were solved at the local level, but following are the problems that could not be addressed or entertained at local level.  Hence it is our desire to bring them to your notice:

1. The fare fixed for Mangalore to Gulf destinations is not in line with the ‘Budget Airline' concept.  There is an accusation from a large number of passengers that, service quality may be matching with your Budget Airline Concept, but fares certainly do not.  It has been observed that fares during the peak seasons of July, August, Christmas, and New Year Season is far higher than normal conventional airlines.  To quote you one example, a passenger from Dubai, during December, paid Rs 35,000 for a Dubai - Mangalore return ticket But an Emirates airline ticket to Mumbai with a connection to Mangalore with Jet Airways would have cost lesser than the direct option.  Besides the fare, the same passenger further ended-up paying another few thousand rupees on excess baggage as Air India Express allows only 20 kg luggage from out of Mangalore.

There are several readers / passengers who have observed that Air India Express fares to other destinations like Calicut, Cochin and other sectors are much more competitive.  Is this because those destinations have other carriers operating there as well?  Do we need to wait until other airlines start their operations to Mangalore?  Kindly look into this issue before Mangalore-bound passengers unitedly decide to opt for alternate cheaper options. Monopoly is not a justification to charge passengers exorbitantly.  We have always regarded and respected our national carrier and we hope Air India Express reciprocates this sentiment by first reducing the fares to an affordable level...

2. When passengers raised their concern on the permitted baggage allowance (20 kg from Mangalore airport to the Gulf, and 30kg from Gulf destinations to Mangalore) officials always give the excuse that, 'Budget Airlines can allow only limited luggage unlike regular airlines’.  Does this apply only for Luggage?  Why not for fares then?  There are several instances where even ONE kilo of excess luggage was not spared and charged Rs 400/- .

Is there no tolerance even for a single kilo when the fares paid are high?  The passengers have requested with your airline that you allow at least 30Kilos from Mangalore to Gulf destinations and 40 Kilos from Gulf to Mangalore.  If this is not possible due to logistic reasons, then kindly reduce the fares substantially in order to be in par with other budget airlines.

3. About 80% of the passengers interviewed by daijiworld felt that the counter staff at Mangalore Airport are not trained enough, lack professionalism and are wanting in customer friendly attitude.  There is no smile on the face, non courteous  and lack  knowledge in handling international passengers and processing time takes much longer  when compared to other international airports.  This is a serious issue which might affect the integrity and status of Mangalore International Airport.  The official uniform of the counter staff does  not rise up to normal airline standards as it is inconsistent and varies from person to person.  The same passengers are soaked into seeing well dressed staff of Jet Airways and Kingfisher airlines.  We urge you sir, to use your good offices and find out the reason for this poor performance from a presumably   untrained staff of Air India Express Mangalore airport.

4. You had announced the catering of a Mangalorean cuisine for the flights leaving late evening from Mangalore.  Complains have poured in regarding the food quality on board.  We understand that many Budget airlines do not server food on the flight.  Instead they sell food on board.  If you are not able to manage quality food to the passengers, perhaps selling quality food may also be an excellent idea.  This should be food for thought for Air India Express.

5. The general behavior of the airhostesses on board is also questioned.  They too lack a smile and give an impression that they are not trained.  A large majority of the passengers feel that lack of training and lack of well deserved candidates may be the reason for this slide in service level.  There is also a big concern among a few passengers that ALL Airhostesses are from North Indian and they do have a cold blanket attitude towards south Indian passengers.  There is nothing like flying with someone who knows our language and understands our ethnic sentiments.

6. We also request you on behalf of thousands of Mangaloreans in Saudi Arabia to update us on the latest status of direct flight from Saudi Arabian destinations to Mangalore.

Although there are many more concerns expressed by the passengers we thought it right to highlight only a few major ones.

We trust your judgment and believe in your leadership.  We have enjoyed your support when we wanted additional flights or facilities.  It is possible that you are unaware of these issues and hence this open letter to you.  Your timely action will certainly go a long way in helping thousands of passengers who travel on AI Express and also  could give room for improvement to AI Express.  This will also be an opportunity for Air India Express to grab the reins and be prepared when the airport becomes fully operational at the new terminal.

Thanking you in advance for your consideration and listening to our problems

On behalf of all our  readers and Mangalore-bound passengers,

Yours faithfully

Walter Nandalike

fares are decided on the basis of demand.airline allott payload for each sector like calicut can take 90 passenger and mangalore can take 96..demand for the sectore decidesthe fare..and you cannot get down on the when you are through checked in, due to security reasons but in special cases they can do it with the permmission of the commander ..normally they will make you pay the fre difference

    Sir,
Every indian,s blamed the service of I-EXP, from the gulf sector about fair and Delay service. Some time it was happend with technical defect.the passengers dos't know the consequence. We have somany indian org- in UAE. You can arrange meeting with publics and explain , why it was happening. You can do it without any delay and try to under stand them. And explain the diffrence of the fair and why this will happend. I hope that this will defenitly help the indians to rethink.

Hi Team Please, can any one give me a solution for the bellow, related to Air India Express. There is an AI Express flight, from Dubai to Calicut, via Mangalore. And very interestingly, our precious airlines, charge AED 800 from Dubai to Mangalore, but only AED 600 for DXB-Calicut. Now the question comes, if im traveling with a ticket up to Calicut, can I get down at Mangalore Airport? I usually travel without any lugage. I contacted AI Express, and Airport Authority of India, with this question, but no one of them could, clarify this to me. Kind regards CA ANIL

Dear All Karnataka NRI community, how bad is the fare price policy of airindiaexpress is see the tickets for Mangalore from Dubai and other parts of Gulf for June 20 onwards. Why this is called budget airlines when the ticket fare is of international luxury airline applied. Taken into consideration please let us call the Indian aviation minister and ask the other world class airlines to fly Mangalore.

I dont want anyone to complain and stop dammam /riyadh mangaloreFLIGHTS so please we stand together to achieve our goal to make Mangalore airport an international... .Once it is done we can start to take action on how we improve or say this way to bring smile on the faces of airport officials . jai ho!

Great Job Walter!!! You guys have made Mangaloreans proud and brought us today on a global platform. Air travel needs to be privatised and Air India express being the monopolistic player on this route has full profit on this route and they are not giving proper service 1) Flight service is not appropriate 2) Food is not upto standards expected 3) Air fare is as costly as Non-Budget airline 4) Ground staff in Mlore are not well trained to attend to any casaulties caused at airport to frequent flyers with families they have to carry luggage and babies along and walk all the stairs up and down in airports. 5) Luggage in the airport is thrown away at the terminal and searching for baggage is a great fight. I would request if this is communicated to appropriate authorities and make frequent flyers breath a sigh of releif. Thank you.

Most of the families traveling to Mangalore during the summer vacation, carry baggage for their 60 -70days stay in India which itself may exceed stipulated baggage limits. While the baggage limit adopted by Air India Express (AIE) is based on the budget Airlines concept such as Air Arabia, fare is always at par with non budget airlines. Typically non-budget airlines in gulf allow 40 kg baggage allowance. I believe which is purely based on the gulf passenger’s typical practice of taking gifts to their family members etc. Air India Express either be a Budget Airline and provide cheaper fare similar to Kerala sector or allow higher baggage allowance at par with non budget airline. Come on Air India Express Management be consistent.

Yes really........ If vijay mallya is starting a New Kingfisher Airlines from Mangalore to Gulf countries at a lower rate means automatically Air India Express rates will be lower and obviously services also become good.. Any way for serviving they will surely lower thier fares and give quality serives.. Hope so ...... Thanking you walter...

Mr. Walter, you are doing a wonderful job, As a matter of fact, i am also a frequent traveler on air india express to mangalore, because it is a direct flight to Mangalore not because of budget airline. On 15th Jan 2009, i took a flight from Muscat via Abudabhi, boarding at Mct 9.30 am, flight departed 1215 from Muscat, they served a small packet of food with 200 ml water at 12.30 hrs at Abdudabhi, as you said no smile or gesture on hostess face and No additional request is accepted. 9.30 am to 7 Pm people who are on board has to starve. You have suggested well Air india express can plan to sell food on board.

With my experience of travelling for many years with different airlines to different countries where I have faced problems like cancellation of flights, missing baggage, bad service, excess baggage etc., I would only suggest for a cheaper fare (1/3 of the current fare or atleast half) so that people can afford to visit their family twice or thrice a year instead of once in two or three years. Once Mangalore airport becomes international airport then ofcourse many airlines will compete with each other. Until then we have no choice but be at the mercy of our national carrier Maharaja. Lets hope for the best. thank you Daiji for your efforts.

Was thinking of taking a flight from Houston to Dubai and connecting to Mangalore via AIE. Appreciate the feed back forum. We will now fly to Mangalore via Dubai/Bombay. In US there is no monoply and no national airline, only the survival of the fittest. If only 20% of the things said about AIE are true then we will give our business to the airlines that appreiates and earn our business. As much as we like to give India our forex revenue,I would like to see then earn it like every one of us,

Nothing has changed since you sent the letter. I returned from Mangalore last night. I had excess baggage of 3 kilos only for 2 passengers, but the airlines staff was adamant, so i sent back some items through my relatives who had come to see me off. I have given a piece of my mind to the staff there. I have told them to enjoy the last few months of monopoly after which to sit with begging bowls in front of the airport as no sensible person would want to fly Air India once other airlines begin to operate from Mangalore. I even calledd them as a den of thieves and a bunch of swindlers, as their attitude was so disgusting. Air India is not an airline of national pride but of national shame due to the behaviour of such people operating it. One gets an impression that anybody from the streets is picked to work at Air India. They forget that it is a service oriented industry and goodwill gained will stay on for years, yet they seem to be hell bent on rubbing everybody the wrong way. We must start a forum immediately to see that other airlines begin to operate from Mangalore as soon as possible and put an end to the misery we have to put up with Air India. As if possible file a public interest litigation at a consumer court against the current fares collected by them.

Taking a flight from Dubai to Bangalore and then taking a onward journey to Mangalore is more economical than taking direct flight to Mangalore. AIE should definately get their acts together to construct a airfare, which doesn't take advantage of the situation and should reflect that they are budget airline. If not a day when other airline starts operating from mangalore- people will opt for those airlines, leaving behind national carrier sentiment. Please get your act together AIE.

This is indeed a good effort by Daijiworld. When we landed in Mangalore on 19th Dec 08- with thick woolen clothes, we were waiting for more than 30 min for baggage while one of the customs officer informed us that 85 baggages were left back. We had to retire home sweat with woolen clothes and no clothes to wear until our luggage arrived next day.

AIE staff / manager in mangalore had no courtesy to inform the passagers about it. after everyone started shouting, there came the manager - chewing pan !!!!! - so shabbly dressed that even cleaners in airport were dressed better than him. this sets their standard. The passengers who are close to the toilets have to manage the journey with the fowl smell - the least we can hope from AIE is cleanliness. All other problems are already discussed and commented in the article.

Air India Express is one of the hopeless flights I have ever seen in my 50 years . 20 Kg is the baggage allowed. An empty suitcase wieghts 5 kg. I will not make a mistake by flying next time in Air India Express. Next problem is the flights are not on SCHEDULE. What time it comes and what time it goes is not known to the passanger till he reaches the Airport to Board the flight. Any time without notice time of departure is changed without informaing the Passanger. I request all my Collegues not to fly in AIR INDIA EXPRESS even by mistake. Shame on our National carrier. If Air India Express does not improve its standards, I am sure one day it may not exist. . No Customer Service at all and the Air India Staff are very rude in their talk.

Great Job done by Daiji Team. Its a monopoly of AIE.We used to cater Air India flights earlier, and I know the attitude of the Crew towards the people flying with AI. They are so negligent and not at all ready to serve people. We hope Mangalore airport will be d internationl airport soon and airlines like QatarAirways / Emirates / GulfAir /Ethihad / Air Arabia / Saudia Shall start their direct flights from gulf and other international destinations to Mangalore For the meantime If Daiji can request Jetairways / Kingfisher to start Gulfbound flights from Managalore Anyhow once again 'Daiji and Walty - All the best to your efforts for the betterment of mangalore'

My 18 year daughter flying alone from Kuwait - Mangalore had a nightmare, when a female at the check-in counter bluntly told that she could not carry the trolly hand baggage that was exceeding by just half a kilogram. Security was tight and I had to slip in taking great risk and approach some senior official at the counter and give him a peace of my mind for their inhuman approach. Be a budget airline and not a CHEAP airline!!

I really appreciate ur initiative for the step taken forward to bring it to the knolwedge of viewers.. Air india needs to imporve the services a lot.. In my last three years travelling with Air india Express, Everytime i faced delayed departure both ways... Moreover lugguages cap of 20 kg should be increase to dat of other airlines and price should decrease further to really meet budget airlines.

We all passengers traveling to & fro from Kwt are facing problems of carrying luggage as well as airfare. Most of the people travel once in 2 years on their vacation & definitly carry luggage more than 30KG's. We would, therefore, urge AIE to increase the luggage from Kwt to M'lore 40 kgs & M'lore to Kwt 30 kgs.

In the meantime please be kind enough to reduce the airfare so that we Mangaloreans will enjoy the direct flights. Also request the Airhostesses to be polite & gentle while dealing with us because we are also one among you people.(I mean from the same place) Anxiously waiting for your immediate action.

The air tickets are so sigh in which we don’t even get proper service, very poor hospitality from the cabin crew. The food what they serve is disgusting. I don’t even think this letter will may bring any changes. I just wish and pray to start few more flights from Abroad to Mangalore.

I am trying to get/buy a ticket DIRECTLY from USA to Mangalore via Dubai/Bahrain or wherever Air India Express goes from/ to Mangalore. But none of the websites offer that deal. It is either Bombay or Bangalore.Even the Indian centered travel agencies are NOT aware of these flights . wish Air India express offers deals on tickets on its own WEBSITE in conjunction with other airlines where we could fly from any destination in USA to Dubai,Bahrain etc for connection directly to Mangalore. It will get additional business to them too from these travellers. OR maybe if Jet Airways reads this and gets this idea would be wonderful too!! They could make a hub like Brussels somewhere in these countries so travellers could go directly instead of wasting time for connection flight from Bombay/Bangalore. What good is it if it is an International airport only for Gulf based travellers ???

Great Work Guys.... Need to put my PLIGHT with this FLIGHT... Was flying on the 27th December 2008 from Mangalore to Dubai. Flight scheduled at 9:50 Hrs.WAS ON TIME.. We boarded the flight with my 3 Yrs son and my 6 Months Pregant Wife, With the Take of time tikking away there was no sighn of the Aircraft taking off... After about a Hour we were told that Tyres where Flat and the Engineers were on it.... Once this was all set we were still sitting when we were told that they had not got the Permission to fly the U.A.E Airspace..... With all the drama getting on when we reached Dubai we had a Aerial sight seeing of the HATTA MOUNTAINS as we had no runway space for landing in Dubai..... Decided that would rather fly Dubai/Mumbai/Mangalore with a DRINK,MOVIE, AND A GREAT DINNER & BREAKFAST..... (But above all during all this time in the flight the Air Express flight attendants were playing HIDE & SEEK with the AIE bound passengers)

She carried all 37Kgs as luggage and no hand carry from Kuwait. AIE officials denied that she cant do so and made her pay a fine of more than Rs.3000. Keep this add in Daijiworld site until the solution of the problem. It is painful to read the difficulties facing by the passenger. Let AIE and Air India Open their eyes. Perhaps they will open their eye once another foreign flight started their service to the Mangalore Airport. Each single individual whoever travelled to Mangalore Airport may be faced one or more problems. I started travelling to Mangalore since the flight started the direct service to mangalore. One true opinion that If there is another smooth operating flight is there to Mangalore (even foreign)I will prefer that flight even it is expensive than AIE.

Good job walty. It was long awaited. This service was getting into our nerves when we used to comapre the prices AIE offers to kerala sector. One more thing I want to point out here that AIE charge high TAXES compare to other air lines i think. When AIE started operations from sharjah to Mangalore, the taxes were around dhs 140/- but one fine morning suddenly they hike upto dhs 390/- (same as dubai) where taxes are less in sharjah compared to dubai. Air arabia charges dhs 240/- tax to mumbai, but AIE charges dhs 390/-. Walty i request you to look into this fact also.

Dear Sirs, I have been flying Air India, Indian Airlines and now Air-India Express for the last 35 years or so. It is worthless to complain about them, since they are not willing nor have the willingness to improve the services. Their remarks are so rude sometimes, it is only my education and culture has prevented me from man-handling them. However what they can do is to drastically cut down their prices in line with other budget airlines like Alzaeera, Air-Arabia and many others. All inclusive one-way ticket to gulf destination should be between US$100 to 250 considering the non-peak and peak seasons. I have on  several occasions flown in Air India express on Dubai-Mangalore route and most of the time 30-40% of the flight is empty simply because the fare is exorbitant and non- affordable by common people. What is the point in keeping high prices and flying half load? Does that serve anyone’s purpose including the airlines? I have another advice to the Aviation minister. Simply sell or privatize Air India and AIE Right now it serves the purpose of only its employees and no one else including the country. In fact such an airline is a shame to the country.

Thank you Walter for this initiative. We have a concern on their policy on the baggage allowance. Air India Express allows only 30 kg as check-in luggage 7 kg (handbag) = 37. It is difficult to carry hand baggage when the passenger travels with infants or little children. They should be flexible in their policy and if the passenger chooses to check-in 37 kgs as luggage without carrying any handbag, that should be allowed.

Really good job by Daijiworld. I want to narrate an incident that happened at Mangalore airport. We arrived at the airport three hours prior to departure as the international rule states. But the security guard on duty did not allow us in stating that the AIE staff had not yet arrived. For security reasons, we were not even allowed to stay there. The ticket clearly said that we had to report 3 hours before departure time. But the staff  themselves had not arrived. I am glad I got a chance to write this to Daijiworld now. All passengers travelling will be having a big tension of laggage due to the limited laggage of 30KG. Many people are travelling for vacation 1 or 2 years later will have definatly a laggage wieghing more than 30KG's. SO it would be better to increase it from 30 to 40 KG's. And the fare is too high which should be reduced as soon as possible.

Its Better that other operators come in for competition. "Monopoly"....a main reason for an operator to hike. Either the aviation minister should give an oportunity for a private airline( kingfisher/Jet Airways or a forgien airline ( Airarabia, Emirates) to get into business. How possible two employees of an international airlines follow different rules and regulations at the same time in their counters. In that tense moments,I really confused who actually was corect and gave up the idea of complaining after receiving the boarding pass, fearing they may recall my luggage and ask me to pay another 3500/.Anything could have happened because It was Air India express!

But never heard about these types of problems. Although I didn’t travel this sector so far by Air India ,  on behalf of fellow passengers I request Air India management to look into this on priority. When I was in Muscat I used to travel by Air India from Muscat to Bombay. Air India Service was excellent. I never faced any delays or any kind of problems. Well done Walter, you have exposed the true facts and the support you are receiving from the Readers by way of comments, proves that these facts are indeed true. Once when I travelled to Mangalore, there was this North Indian Flight Attendant who was serving drinks and collecting money. I could see him collecting foriegn currency from Passengers but not giving back the change. He was writing on a piece of paper to show the Passenger that he would come later with the change. I too bought a couple of drinks and he did the same thing.

He had to return Dhs 3 to me. After serving drinks, he vanished and I never saw him again. What happened to all the change he owed to all Passengers? Nobody bothered to complain because it was not a big amount. This must be happening on all flights. They employ such cheats as Flight Attendants! When I was returning from Mangalore with my Wife and 2 children, they weighed our Baggage and asked us to pay for 5 Kgs excess. I agreed because it was as per the rules. They did not give me a boarding pass and made us wait for more than half an hour to give a receipt. In the meanwhile, another couple with 2 children weighed their baggage and the same counter staff told him that he wouldn't have to pay for any excess baggage. In fact this Couple had 5 kgs more than what we were carrying. When I called the Manager and complained, he started shouting at the counter staff. He then agreed not to charge me but made me wait for another haf an hour.

To make things worse, we were given separate seats although I was one of the first Passengers to check in. It is a shame that they are charging exorbitant fares and giving such pathetic service. I sincerely hope that King Fisher Airlines and Jet Airways start direct flights from the Gulf to Mangalore and end this monopoly.

We all were happy when the news introduction of flight from Gulf to Mangalore was fulfilled with the efforts of Daijiworld, Rajesh Sequiera and the dignitaries of Mangalore. Thanks to Their efforts the monopoly of Air India is perhaps condemnable in the Warsaw convention, Montreal convention, CMR convention, Kenneth Beaumont and Aviation Law Since 1981 my flying experiences with all the airlines I have come across with the airline Airindia express which takes the passengers for granted.

I happened to fly since 28 years and now a day’s flight toilets are locked just after the flight takes to the skies until it lands in Mangalore or Dubai. When asked to the crew Sir the seat belt sign is on please return to the seat is answer? This is ridiculous I have been flying most turbulent skies from the southernmost part of New Zealand and all over the European Alps never seen such go back to your seat attitude for 3 and half hours. It was to my surprise last October I boarded a flight to Mangalore from Dubai and found out there was some liquid spilled on the seat which was assigned for me probably the soft drink by earlier passenger.

I asked the crew that I can’t sit on this liquid where I wet my pants! She immediately brought some tissue papers and asked me to clean I was just speechless by this where I pay the fare and I clean the seat of a plane. I told I can’t do that she asked me to change the seat and waved me to the next row of seats. After a while another crew came to me and with loud voice she argued this is not your seat please go back to your seat. By then someone already occupied the wet seat.

The food is not worth on board for a passenger who pays the international fare. What I suggest is there is consumer court in India every Indian passenger has the right to pursue the airline to provide better service and budget fare as this is called budget airline.

Dear Walter, thanks for the initiative taken by Daijiworld to air the AIE travellers woes to the operations manager.I hope AIE takes note of the views in this column and improves its service.I fully endorse the views of fellow readers, except for the North/South tag attached to the air hostesses (eventhough I agree that their attitude in general is not pleasant). Dear fellow readers cant we explore ways of legally bringing AIE to its knees. Dear presidents of Mangalorean Organisations like MCC,MCA,TuluKoota appreciate if you can start a signature campaign to bring AIE to amend its fares.

I agree that an overall revamping of running public sector companies need to be done. I can bet you the same staff of the airline would not appreciate being fleeced, or not served well if they were on the other side. Why can't businesses be run with vision rather than greed? Capt P.P.Singh would very well wan't to make changes, but does he really have the powers to do so? Hope in India we can have a new breed of leadership that really thinks and acts idealistically and not what we presently call reality.

If this is done we will sure to get some of the best international airlines and automatically AIE will bring down their price.

Dear Mr. Walter you have led an examplee for other media to take up a right cause and fight for justice. Hope you will succeed. But Sir, all AI and AIE flights gets maximum revenue from middle east sectors because occupancy rate is highest while service offered in this sector is very very poor. Frequent flight delays by AI is common. They are using Gulf sector revenue to give best services to empty flights flying to Europe and other western countries. It is NRI gulf passengers that contribute maximum to AI while they  get the least attention.

Great Job Walty & Daijie team. As a Travel Professional, I wish to express my views about customer feed back that we get :

** Only consolation that passengers have is, it's a direct flight - thanks to AI Express.

** fares are unreasonable and passengers feel AI Express is taking the passengers for a Royal Ride, b'coz they have NO Competition as yet.

** inflight service is nothing close to an international standard. if you do not serve free food, at least provide edible food on payment. There have been incidents when guests are willing to pay for food, but it wasnt avilable.

** air hostesses are not upto the mark of an international standard, they look anything but professional, they behave rudely with passengers. few passengers have even remarked that airhostesses think that they are doing us a favour by attending to guests on board, while it's the other way round...!!

** check in counters at Mangalore airport also lacks professionalism to a great extent.

** also that Mangalore station does not have trained air india staff / personnel to handle a flight, all that you find are contract basis staff, who are ignorant on many issues & behave so unprofessionally with guests or even travel agents. Please note, I am writing this just as a feed back from our guests who have travelled by these direct flights.

May be AI Express needs to take these issues n act on improving service. Or may be Govt sould give an opportunity for private airlines to operate flights on these routes, so that the competition at least gives way for better service with AI Express..!!!

Thanks to you to bring these kind off issues.Yes it is true that the fares are high as you said, and yesterday the jazeera airways had a offer for 2 days, and mumbai ticket was for 20 kd with out any taxes. and emirates fly to bangalore with 90 kd return fare.even it is not a budget airline and even kuwait airways 90kd return to mumbai and this too not a budget airline.

If Jazeera, budget airline can afford a single passenger for 20 kd return ticket why our AI charge us sorry try to loot us? and thier fare is day by day increasing.even if they fix one rate for round the year it is good to all passengers. In my point of view it may be range from 80 to 110 kd maximum. we allow luggage from kuwait in KU Airways 45 kg.when IE offer high price then let us take 40 KG. thank you daijiworld.

I landed at Mangalore on 5th dec. 09 at 6.15 p.m. and left the airport at 8.00 p.m . I saw the passengers  jumping on each other to take their luggage and no staff  bothered to help.  About 34  passengers did not get their bags and had to come back the next day. The counter staff took my bag details three times. As others mentioned, the counter staff need to be trained and ensure they live upto the passengers expectations.

A great job by Walter & his team. Hats off to you all for taking the trouble of taking our grievances to the C.O.O. of AIE. The unprecedented huge responses/comments generated by this article authenticates the grievances mentioned by you. Of all these umpteen comments there is not even a single comment in favour of AIE and this is proof enough for anybody to judge what type of Airline it is actually. I too had a bad experience once. I had to go on a emergency leave as my father was in a serious condition. Not knowing when I will be back I bought one way ticket to mangalore for around Qrs. 750/- (approx. Rs.8,500/- then)and when it was time to book my return ticket I was in a shock to hear the airfare - it was whopping Rs.17,000/- (Twice the price). As the gravity of my urgency was such that I had no other option than to fly AIE. This is nothing different than extortion and fleecing the gullible. High time for the Captain P.P.Singh to act if he does not want his airship to run aground permanently.

I remember when we flew for the first time last year (2008) on AIE in June - Jet Airways (MCT-MUM-IXE) return, quote was RO. 242 or something and AIE direct Mlore return, quote was RO. 254 (approx) I dont remember the exact fare but definitely more than Jet, which is not fair at all. The only reason we travelled was the short duration of the flt. One request to AIE instead of serving that lousy food - its better not to give anything at all. KFC & Big Mac is always there. That's what we do - carry our own food, you never know when your flt is going to be awfully delayed. Like recently when my mom (aged 79) had to fly to Mangalore at 11.30 - we reached the airport only to find out the flt is postponed to 5.00 p.m. No one bothered to help out until I went personally and practically begged to atleast let her check-in her baggage so that I could take her home and return at 4.00 p.m. All this took us from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. By this time my mother was fully worn-out, tired and totally exhausted. I believe finally the flt took off at 5.45 p.m. I think AIE should relook their ticket prices and improve CUSTOMER CARE. This should be their top priority on the 'TO DO LIST' for 2009.

Daiji world has done the right thing in highlighting the various issues faced by the costumers of Air India Express travelling from/to Mangalore on the different routes. We appreciate your efforts in trying to get us all a better deal!.

I travelled along with my family by the night flight to Dubai on 15th January 2009. We were surprised by the food that was served as it was fresh & hot and not stale (Going by our previous experiences) Hopefully this is sign of improvement. But as highlighted by you the staff was grossly undertrained and the only senior cabin crew was behaving rudely towards the passengers and forcing the junior (Trainee?) staff to handle most of the duties on board. In fact the announcements on board was full of errors. The situation will not improve significantly untill and unless there is competrion and for this to happen we need Mangalore to be d as a full fledged International airport.

Hope fully with the completion of the new terminal building the airport will be d as an inetrnational airport and this will usher in other operators to begin operations to Mangalore from the various destinations. Keep up the good work!

Dear Mr. Walter, I sincerely appreciate your brave voice against the fares and services of AIE flight. It is a good job and we all with you to support. Whatever you have stated in your letter is 100% true. AIE is exploiting the people in the name of budget airline. The charges are too high compared to the other airlines and the services are bad. I had two bitter experiences when I traveled with them 1. In June 2007, while coming from Mangalore, I had only 750gms of excess baggage. The lady in the counter considered it as 1 kilo and charged for me Rs. 300/-. I didn’t carry enough of money to pay her. I requested her  to let it go as it is only one kilo more. She refused and asked me to stand aside and started to attend to other passengers. So I opened my luggage and removed a few clothing from out of it and handed it over to my relatives who had come to see me off..

    2. In Sept 2008, I was traveling from Muscat to Mangalore to spend the Ramadan Eid holidays. The passenger who sat beside me was feeling sick. I extended my help to him by giving him the sick bag which was placed ahead of me. I was shocked to see that it was a used bag, not disposed off by the cleaning crew.I decided never to fly on this airline  again. . It is better to follow Mr.Alexanders Karkala’s guidance in this regard and totally boycott this carrier unless they take desperate  steps to improve their services.

Dear Walter, All the points stated above are absolutely valid and accurate. But sending such an open letter to the AIE authorities might open a pandoras box, considering the efforts taken to start these direct flights. I urge you to mellow down the letter a bit more. And in regard to the "North Indian vs South Indian" point, I frankly feel thats a little too harsh. I agree with you, if South Indians were appointed then communication and understanding of culture etc. would be ideal. But think about it, is that the right thing to say and give a general catergorization to North Indians like that. Anyway, to summarize, just mellow down the letter a bit and send it through. I love the initiative and as a customer of AIE, I hope they will consider the above. All the best

Hi All, Daiji World deserves appriciation in this regard. This is really a great great job and the true way to express concern. I find abosolutely no co-operation or a kind of service oriented attitude in any of the staffs working with this airlines. I had a very bad experience talking to one of the staffs at Dubai Airport office.

The issue was regarding the reschedule of flight, which was not communicated to us and missed the flight too. The staff there was justifying the mistake and was making us understand the service limits of Air India Express, saying that they cannot make phone calls to all 180 passengers, and it is passengers duty to check the flight schedule online. Hope this appeal brings in some change. Thank you......

I do have personnel bad experience with AIE from past 2 years 7 some set of examples regarding daylight robbery from AIE.

The staff in mlore never bothers to intimate the passengers about the delay of the flight due to weather conditions or any other technical reasons. I had a bad experience of waiting more than 6 hours after checkin at Mlore Airport & once the flight also got cancled at the last moment during Cyclone Gonu(Oman). The staff weren t able to handle the situation. While some passengers nearby could go home people who came from far away place like Bhatkal Coorg or Kerala had to spend a day at airport with no facility any sort off whereas it was entirly responsiblity of AIE.

They act as if they are doing a favor by taking us for free ride to Gulf. Gulf passengers are taken for some cheap class bus passengers. Even during off season AIE charged not less than 1800 return for a Mlore ticket but i flew in May to KL(Malasia) in Emirates for just AED 1800 all inclusive return which is almost 14k KM compared to 6k return from Mlore. Now this is daylight robbery by so called Budjet airline. Take the present situation. Due to the crisis happening Emirates charges AED 1300 for a return ticket from chennai/blore which is at the other part of the country, that too with full service. But our dear AIE charges AED 1250 return to mlore with poor service ?.. Good deal..

Now i wonder why recession doesnt hit AI. AIE opend booking for 2nd MLORE-DXB flight during late last December. With a good smile i booked my tickets only to get a mail later my AIE that my booking is posteponed as they are flying only 3 days a week 2 times. I want to ask who decides when i have to travel ? weather its me or AIE ?. Who is responsible for the inconvience caused due to change of my plans ? Who is responsible for my loss of another AED 70 worth of rescheduling fees ?. If you dint plan well or not prepared why did you open the e-booking. Dear Friends if AIE does not wake up this time then its high time we have to getogather and boycot it. Let them fly half capacity and feel the pain.

It is evident that majority of the passengers who traveled by AIE had a bad experiences to narrate. To solve this problem for ever, I have a simple solution which will make your travel to Mangalore less tiring, more economical, comfortable, relaxing and most of all a cherishing one to remember.. Forget about flying direct to Mangalore, If you are in Dubai, take a Cathay/Jet Airways/Emirates ( all these 3 airlines have direct check in facility and convenient departure time late in the night arriving early morning in Bombay, and same applies to passengers coming from Saudi, Oman,Kuwait and Bahrain). Believe me you can even fly Business class in Cathay and enjoy many benefits as the cost of Bombay return ticket is within 1500 AED off-peak. Consider you flying economy and till Mangalore you will end up paying only AED 1600 to AED 2600 for a return ticket depending on the season you choose to travel with almost 40KGs of baggage allowance. You can check your baggage here with through check in( but you need to take the baggage out in Mumbai for customs check). The advantage of through check-in is, you are issued with a boarding pass till Mangalore in Dubai,( chance to get front seats in Mangalore flight is more) All these flights reach Bombay early morning between 4.30AM and 5.30AM. Once you pick your baggage and clear the customs( which is hassle free these days in Bombay, you just need to walk through the green channel if there is nothing to ) there is no need to get out of the International Airport to go to Domestic Airport by taxi.

After the customs, take your left exit, which will take you to Jet Airways counter, you check your baggage there and they will issue you a boarding pass there itself. Just keep your hand luggage with you and wait there in the waiting area for the inter Airport bus service to pick you up and take you to the domestic Airport with full security. Believe me, there is no cheating, no pick pockets and no thieves who will take out your belongings.

The Airport bus will have a police personnel 24 hours with the rank of Sub inspector, the bus is air-conditioned and spacious to accommodate your luggage. You don't need to lift the luggage, they will do it for you with no cost at all. Bus will take a inside route to domestic terminal, along the fencing of Airport. With in 15 minutes you are in the domestic terminal with no hassles and for no cost at all. Just pick your baggage from the bus and wait in the Domestic terminal with your belonging which is very safe these days as the Airport is monitored closely by CISF and no outsider can enter the Airport with no business of flying.

What are Mangy Politicians doing about it, don’t they have a say. It appears these fares a totally fabricated & pseudo fares, they are just sucking Mangalore bound passengers, we observe. there should be justification & should be comparable to flights from other areas, The yard stick for formulating the fares must be on logical grounds & not how the North Indians feel about it. North Indians are not the bosses of South Indians, nor visa versa, it is one country, let the PM know this. Send him a memorandum, with mass signatures, copy to Mr, Praful Patel. Well done Walty. What you have stated is 100% true. The fares Air India Express is charging is very high compared to the fares charged to Kochi/Calicut. I can rate Air India Express as one of the worst airlines i have ever travelled. During Eid holidays in Dec AEI one way fare to Mangalore was around Dhs1600/=, Where as i could reach Mangalore in Dhs 711/=(Dxb/Mumbai-Jazeera airways Dhs 458/= & Mumbai/Mangalore-King Fisher via Kochi Dhs 253/= ) and timings too are convienent (Dep Dxb at 23.00 Hrs and Mumbai Dep at 07.10 Hrs)

AEI is fully aware that they are the only airline operating direct to Mangalore from the gulf. Once the new terminal is completed and other airlines start operating all Mangeloreans should Boycott AIR INDIA EXPRESS

Can we imagine the rotten attitude of the Indian government owned white elephants called "Air India and Indian Airlines", four decades back when they were running the whole show as a total monopoly? Well, I had experienced that bitter experience of life with so many other thousands of passengers who had the misfortune of flying those airlines, and I have taken an oath that I will not fly in those airlines, due to the bad experiences I had with them. If Air India-Air India Express and Indian won't train their employess how to be friendly and service oriented toward the paying customers, those airlines will come to a grinding halt some day. Among the airlines of the world, Indian government owned airlines have, some of the worst rating by the passengers.

I had bad experience while coming back from Mangalore to Sharjah at Mangalore Airport. I along with my family (total 5 passengers) checked in at the airport. At the Borading counter, the lady checked our 5passports and gave 5 boarding passes, but gave only 4 passports back. I checked at the same counter & informed to check on it.

But she insisted that she had returned back all passports. My wife kept repeating to the lady at the counter to check near her table, but she instead of sparing few minutes to search at her place, kept insisting to check with us. The flight was at 10am, and the search went on till 9.45 without any officials doing anything seriously. Later on complaining to the Airport manager only did the other officials checked near the lady's table, & the passport was found near the computer.

Such neglience on part of the officials can cause serious problems to passengers. The intention is not for complaining but to advise the officials to be more alert while receving & giving back group passports & be cooperative & take the proper steps at the moment.

well done mr.walty&daijiworld team.you guys did a exellent job.since AIE started from gulf, passangers are facing lot of problems.mainely the fare is very high comparing to other budjet airlines.the food they are serving in the aircraft is very very low quality.in these days jet airways is allowing 40kg luggage&the aircraft is very comfortable.why AIE not allowing 40kg?common AIE wake up...this is the right time.otherwise jet air will fly with full passangers&AIE...?

Thanks to Mr. Walter and Thanks to Daijiworld. I travelled once by AEI and decided not to fly again with AEI. Unprofessional staff with sad faces who do not even greet the passengers. When I flew with AEI I had only 850 grams of excess luggage, which they considered as one kilo and charged INR.300/= can you believe? I love my Cathay Pacific and onward Jet Airways which welcomes you with evergreen smile from all professional staff. Better AEI if they change 100% to international standard.

All direct flights to M'lore are famous for lost/mishandling/ handover of the baggage. The service provided my AI staff if u lose ur luggage is terrible and they presume that they are doing the passenger a favour by paying Rs.500/- as taxi fare. None of the staff are trained there, pathetic state, none of the crew speaks kannada nor tulu. This was my FIRST and maybe LAST trip via AIE to m'lore. Sometimes I wonder the weighing machine in the airport is correct as the weight of the luggage varies, as anyone observed it. Check your luggage weight at home & then in the airport or else check the same in your arrival place. I dislike the services of AIE.

Thanks Walter and Daiji for raising the concerns of Gulf Indians with AIE. In addition to the issues raised here, I would like to explain a bit how AIE manipulates the pricing structure to loot the public. Take example of price from Abu Dhabi to Mangalore on 22nd Jan. It is like this : Basic fare – AED 249, Taxes – AED 390 (this tax consists of - Abu Dhabi Airport Tax – AED 30, YQ charges – AED 310, YR charges- AED 50). It is in the area of these taxes that AIE is looting the passengers.

YQ charge is a fuel surcharge, normally charged by the governments but here (AED 310) is 125% of the basic fare. It is a day light robbery from any standard. YR is an insurance charge like war premium and in this case AED 50 is definitely excessive. Now look at the recently amended cancellation policy of AIE. If the ticket is bought today and cancelled tomorrow, 35% of basic fare will be cut even if the travelling date is many days ahead. If the travelling date is less than 10 days, 50 % of the basic will be cut. I don’t think any other airline will have such a cancellation policy. One more concern, when we travel from Gulf to Mangalore the first thing we expect is a Mangalorean environment but what we get to see and hear in the flight is only Tamil and Malayalam music.

What are Mangy Politicians doing about it, don’t they have a say. It appears these fares a totally fabricated & pseudo fares, they are just sucking Mangalore bound passengers, we observe. there should be justification & should be comparable to flights from other areas,

The yard stick for formulating the fares must be on logical grounds & not how the North Indians feel about it. North Indians are not the bosses of South Indians, nor visa versa, it is one country, let the PM know this. Send him a memorandum, with mass signatures, copy to Mr, Praful Patel. God bless you Mr. Walter for joining us in voicing the griviences of Gulf travellers from Mangalore. Its sad to note that not one single passenger of IA Express is satisfied with what is offered by them. IA Express also acting like our Governments 'Grab as much till you get caught'. Lets join together and voice our dissatisfaction until some concrete action is being taken.

Also we should demand that another airlines also should be allowed to fly in this sector so the service and fare and all other things will pick up some quality. When there is some competition there will be some benefit for us consumers. Lets not just think of benefits but I believe this is the prestige issue for those travelling to Mangalore.

Many thanks to Mr.Walter Nandalike. No airline in the world can claim that they provide 100% customer satisfaction. While I agree on some of the points in the letter, we can certainly compromise on few others against convenience of flying directly to Mangalore. Before direct operations to Mangalore started, one had to either go via Mumbai or Bangalore or one of the Airport in Kerala to reach Mangalore which used to result in a lot of inconvenience and waste of time apart from the trouble kids & women had to go through - I can certainly do with no smile from Air Hostesses or counter staff.

I also do not agree with Mr.Nandalike regarding the monopoly policy – it is business and definitely AI Express will change its strategy once other airlines are given rights to operate this route. Same goes for the baggage allowance too. Its human nature – when it is one of ours we tend to complain a lot which we do not do with others.

Just check with the same passengers what kind of service do they get on Gulf Air or Emirates or any other Gulf Airlines – either by Air Hostesses or by counter staff – and no one dares to complain. What my point is that as long as the Safety record is good, flights are leaving on time we should compromise on few other things. A smile from a Air Hostess is nothing great – believe me.

As much as I appreciate the letter drafted by Walter, I am equally apprehensive of the action the AIE Chief will consider and within how much time will these considerations bear fruit. I am not pessimistic but as an "Indian" I am also aware of the bureaucracies involved.

This is no doubt a good example of "Make Hay While the Sun Shines". For the information of our AIE Chief, airlines have long started decreasing the cost of tickets mainly because of the decrease in fuel costs and also because of the just-begun global depression. As everyone hopes, I too hope for a BIG change in the approach from AIE.

Excellent job done Daiji..You have hit the nail on the right spot..!. If Air India Exp Calls themselves as Budget Carrier for services and restricts food, excess baggage..etc. the logic should be made applicable to fare too..

It can't be one sided. If this issue is not sorted out then let us all join together to impress upon the civil aviation ministry, to permit other carriers to operate out of Mangalore, which will be a natural solution..for bringing down the fare.. As far as the poor quality of service from counter staff at Managalore Airport, and Crew on the flight is concerned,, It is Air India express has to take a immediate call on it.

I reliably learnt, that most of the staff at Airport are not even paid minimum indusrty level salaries and facilites..and taken as trainees, who are not even trained to handle passengers. How can you expect better service from them ? when they are not been take care properly..If you interview the staff at the Airport you will get the correct picture.. it could be same with the crew also..

I would not ask the airlines for 30kgs as it is a budget airline and moreover even if there is 50kgs baggage even then people will end up paying in excess baggage as the scales where we weigh does not have the accuracy with the scales of the airport and moreover the things bringing and necessity will also be increased but regarding the fare its for sure it need to be monitered and one more thing I dont understand is that why the staff do not accept Indian currency when we come from Mangalore why they need only foreign currency.  Infact rupees is our national currency and the airline staff by not taking the Indian currency is abusing our currency

Apart from their higher fares for budgeted airlines, Air India in general should learn from Jet Air and Kingfisher to serve the passengers better in order to sustain and expand business. At the same time, we as passengers should learn to fly light and polite, not to unbuckle seatbelts until the aircraft comes to a halt and create panicky rush by opening overhead carriages for our bags and almost push each other to alight.

his is the good initiative taken by Daiji team, Mr Walter in particular for the general cause of the people of coastal Karnataka. First I would like to commend the great job being done by Air India express for operating the direct flights in Mangalore/Dubai sector. Yes, considering the kind of service and the category, we could not ask for more other than the direct flight. Since it is the budget air line, service offered is far better and the management need to think aobut their pricing policy. As the budget airlines pricing policy should not depend on the season/ market conditions. We sincerely apprecaite their commendable job and request them to be more reasonable with the pricing. This will help them to reach to the masses. Thank you.

It was indeed a great step by the airport authority by giving a green signal for direct flights between Mangalore and the Gulf region. Everything doesnt stop there.AIE has no right to take advantage of being the only carrier to Mangalore. If AIE decides for such a high price then provide us with that quality service also.

Serve us with good food and not sajige! Atleast give us options. We are not asking for 5 star treatment. During one such travel of mine from Mlore to Dubai, there was a lady seated next to me with a 4 month baby in hand. The baby was crying because she was feeling uncomfortable. The air hostesses did nothing to help the mother. In my personal opinion its very important to be a human first. Dont these air hostesses know that their duty mainly consists of serving people. Ithink the recruitment manager needs to take note of that.

I have not seen the cost of an airline increase in minutes. Last december the cost of the ticket increased by Rs.6000 just in few minutes. What is this! The custom officers and the management working in the Mlore airport are in a false impression that all passengers coming from the gulf are millionaires.

If you need to know the real situation come to Dubai once. Its a sincere request to the custom officers please take forcefully whats not yours. I hope these suggestions are taken into consideration. We dont want to see a day when AIE has to stop flying because of no customers. Thank you.

Thanks Walter. All of us mangalorean passengers congratulate you for this initiative. This is exact reason why i Took a Jet air flight from Bahrain for my last vacation in december. Fly at 10 PM at night to Bombay and reach mangalore by 10:30am next day with easy check in facility at Intnl. airport. Whats more? The kids can enjoy over 25 movies and games while flying , nice hot meals and drinks, plenty of blankets.

And while flying back, check in your baggage till bahrain at mangalore airport and relax. The baggage limit is very relaxed and now we have good connections from mangalore where you Can take a 3 PM flight to bombay and by 9 PM same eveining can reach any GCC country with out loosing your precious leave days. I am sure if AIE does not work on the concerns raised by Walter, they are going to loose a of passengers like me.

One more good attempt from Daijiworld... thanks to Mr. Walter Nandalike. Looking at the comments that are flowing in from the reader passengers, I don't think AIE needs to waste any time on verification / investigation of the grivances put forth. Instead, it would be apprecaited if Air India Express takes Express action so as to address the passenger complaints. Airhostess' and counter staff not being able to smile... may be they are also in the same boat like passengers....may be one more interview with them will unearth the reality. Excess luggage charge of Rs.400/- per kg seems exhorbitant... considering that the passengers on their return travel from native places mostly bring some homemade Pickle, Chakli, Snacks, Sweets or such other home made delicacies which they would like to share with their friends / neighbours / relatives as a mark of friendship and love. Hence, AIE should be lenient in either allowing 30 kg or at a reasonable excess charge. One more suggestion is it would be appreciated if Air India Express also starts some land transport from the Airport to city bus stations for the passengers.

Though I never traveled in AIE until now (and will never ever travel in AIE), but I have heard several people who traveled in this sector through AIE moaning about its service, crew and unprofessional attitude. It’s a known fact that AIE does not qualify to be a budget carrier as its fares are exorbitantly high and the service attitude is Zero.

One who flies in AIE would not wish to fly this airline again. From the start of the journey till you end up at your destination, AIE makes you feel like they are flying you for free and doing a big favor on you. I had once given a nice piece of mind to the AIE Mangalore Airport manager during last visit to Mangalore in September 08, when he interfered and spoke to me in an unprofessional manner while I was helping a friend of mine with his excess baggage with AIE.

Thank God I was not flying AIE, rather I was with Jet Airways and I carried his baggage with me since AIE did not allow him to carry that hand baggage which was less than 8 kilos. It was so unprofessional and unfair for AIE staff to treat its passengers, who bring in revenue which eventually help the airline to pay its employees salaries and allow them to travel free.

Since it’s a government company, the don't care attitude is prevailing and service attitude does not exist at all. I am sure, once Jet Airways starts direct flights to Mangalore from Dubai, I am sure not a single soul would prefer to fly with AIE. If Jet consider starting these three flights DXB-IXE, DMM-IXE and DOH-MCT-IXE then nothing like it…AIE will be a history in Mangalore.

I guess, we all should insist Jet Airways to look in to this matter. Perhaps Daijiworld can approach JET and explore the possibility of flying direct flights from Gulf to Mangalore by JET.

Respected Sir, Air India Express direct flights to Mangalore should be reasonable, as a common man, may be a labourer or a daily wage earner takes the opportunity to fly with Air India Express directly. After paying huge sums they will be made to pay at customs in the Airport. People are there who fly after 3yrs or 2yrs and they will prefer buying gold and jewellery and take cash along but the staff at customs make it a point that they will make benifits out of poor labourers sweat. They should work hard and earn but should stop looting the people.

This is a very serious issue and concerned officials should take this issue seriously. They just keep the passports with them and say pay first otherwise action will be taken. For the kind attention of these looting customs of the Airports, the people earn hard to make everything and they are not looting like you people. Take care when you loot God will not like this every time. Before you die with your sins and go to hell forever, people wake up! This is for the notice of the Officials at the Airport and at the Head Office, to take further action and to make the people comfortable to fly Air India Express. Quick action will be appreciated. With best wishes Passenger Air India Express Dubai/Mangalore Sector

Air India Express is no more a budget airline, the fares are exorbitant. In december the fares from Kuwait to Mangalore were equivalent to Business class fare by emirates. When all airlines have reduced prices( cause of reduction in aviation fuel price)why not on Air -India Express? is this the " Barpinath Barad" policy till the new terminal opens and other airlines start operating from mangalore. Please take action during this time of recession(peoples jobs are going) and reduce the prices by atleast 30% immediately as done by Jet, kingfisher etc. Thanks in Advance.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM  OF AIR INDIA EXPRESS TO MANGALORE FROM BAHRAIN IS THEY DONT ACCEPT SAUDI ARABIAN CREDIT CARDS AND NO TRAVEL AGENT IN SAUDI ARABIA HAS OPTION TO ISSUE TICKETS AS MANY OF AIRLINES FROM BAHRAIN TO ASIAN COUNTRIES THEY TAKE PASENGERS FROM DAMMAM BY BUS TO BAHRAIN AIRPORT..EVEN JET AIRWAYS IS TAKING PASENGERS FROM DAMMAM TO BAHRAIN BY BUS... I REQUEST AIR INDIA EXPRESS HAS AT LEAST THIS OPTION...

Dear Walter, well done job, you deserve thumps-up. This was long needed. Anyway, you have appropriately addressed our grievances. Flight timing, fare and attitude of staff are the main concerns of passengers. One suggestion on catering, instead of serving dry stuff (dry samosa/dry cake/chips etc) let them serve one good item or a fruit.

Great Job done by the Daijiworld. Thank you for your effort. Well done. During the last 2 monthsi I travelled  twice from Riyadh to Bahrain to fly thru direct flight to Mangalore. One of the reasons to avoid transit at Bombay. Hope Air India will start it's direct flight from Riyadh soon.

I strongly agree and support this point A large majority of the passengers feel that lack of training and lack of well deserved candidates may be the reason for this slide in service level. There is also a big concern among a few passengers that ALL Airhostesses are from North Indian and they do have a cold blanket attitude towards south Indian passengers.

Thanks to Walter, it is true that the counter staffs are not trained at all. I have experienced that the family of 4 members checking in together and the seats were given in different places. Secondly, being checked in as the first passengers, we have requested for the first seat as I was having a infant with me. The counter staff had promissed and when boarded the flight, all the VIP people were occupying the front seats and there were 9 infants in the flight & no one was considered.

Rightly said! The airhostess do not even smile, though we smile at them. Strange enough! Food is really too bad and is also bad for health. While travelling at night,if we dont eat anything at the airport then we are done. As soon as u rush back home we end up searching the kitchen! Jet Airways gives much better service (even domestic).Good, clean and hygienic food, also there are people to help you all the way in ther airport and in the flight, with a smiling face. Very courteous staff of Jet Airways.

Thank you Daiji for the letter publication. Thank you Air India Express for the convenience of flight timings rescheduled at night form Dubai mangalore and vise versa, this would help saving two days of day travel.Whenever i have travelled in airindia express to Mangalore or to Dubai i have had very punctual flights thats great!!,i dnt have much problem with immigration either apart from lengthy 'Q' may be because of less counters, but certainly had very much difficulty and waste of time in collecting the luggauge from the conveyor. The reason may be lack of space and planning since the trolleys are lined up right adjacent to the conveyer where it gets conjusted with the people picking up the luggauge and people picking up the trolleys. We hope this problem gets solved in the new terminal.Hope the fares too becomes more affordable. Thanks to Air india for retaining the afternoon flights timings thrice a week,so that the people travelling a long distance from the mangalore airport can take the afternoon flights.

Thank you Daijiworld for writing the letter to AI Express. I agree with Shan, the timings for the return flight from Bahrain to Mangalore are very ODD. The flight will land at Mangalore at 20:20 hrs and any delay will make people to stay at Airport. It will also be difficult if the dependants are sent and the destination is far from Mangalore, apart from exorbitant taxi charges. The previous timing of 16:30 hrs was very much convenient in all respects. The new timings will surely make me to find a different airline to reach Mangalore

Perfect letter. AI Express should not say-We are considering the matter and slip away. Their attitude of day light robbery and -take it or leave it- should change. Will AI respond to common mans greivences?

Very good attempt by Walter Nandalike. You have clearly mentioned what was there in our mind. The Air line authorities should give a thought on this atleast by this to save their business. Let us hope for the positive reply.

Dear Walter, I appreciate your move and it was a valid point raised of fare. We always feel that it is too high compared to our neighbour destination to Kerala. Also it is cheaper to fly bangalore with the budget airline Air Arabia. Thanks to you and daijiworld for taking this bold step.

i totaly agree with the 5th point the airhostesses on board they dont know how to behave with passenger & also show attitude towards south Indian passengers at the most very indians not outsiders coz from my past expriences & about the 3rd point its true that they are not trained staff of airindia but they are contract staff they dont even bother greet the passengers its feels that we come to a fish market for bargaining for Luggage & they lack professionalism they should be professional when they come to this feilds .4th point thats horrible one of the best hotels TAJ MANJURAN provides this kind of food i can't belive...

It was like a dream come true when the flight annouced to dubai mangalore. In fact I travelled in within a month from operation and that is the first and last flight which opt for and never and decided not to fly with AIE in future, even though my residence 30 min. from Mangalore airport,  I opt for other flights from Bangalore. I hope no explanation needed why I fear to travel AIE.

I flew AI exp on the 6th Jan 2009 from Mangalore to Qatar. I had a surprise in store for me when a mini cockroach ran on my tray when the food packet was delivered. I promptly immobilised the cockroach and returned it to the hostess on a tissue paper. She questioned whether it came from the food??? My question to Air India remains... Does it matter where it came from??? A cockroach that has not passed security check should not fly free on board with passengers who have paid through their nose to fly a budget airline.

how about starting once a week service from dubai and abu dhabi which is full service instead of budget or atleast to have a 2 configuration flights with 20% as full serive and remaining 80% as budget service. Because many passengers with families prefer full service flights.

Each time a delay of 2- 3 hours both from Mangalore and Bahrain.. Now AI express changed their timings and it is very hard for the passengers to reach their destinations on time specially to those who are staying vey far from Mangalore city. could you please request AI to maintain the old timings as it was a very convenient timing for all the passengers to reach their destinations safely before the sunset.
