Udupi: Silver Jubilee Celebrations Held at Sastan St Thomas Syrian Church

Udupi, Jan 21: The silver jubilee celebrations of St Thomas Syrian Church, Sastan, near here, were held on Wednesday January 21.

St Mary’s Syrian Cathedral Brahmavar vicar general Ramban G M Skaria presided over the programme.

Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake and businessman Purushottam Shetty were the chief guests while ICYM Udupi zone president Dr Manoj D' Lima, Sastan St Thomas Syrian Church assistant priest Fr P A Johnson and trustee Jobe Lewis were the guests.

Sorake lauded the service of St Thomas Syrian Church, Sastan in educating the society and conveyed his best wishes.

St Thomas Youth Association secretary Priya Lewis presented the annual report.  Sharrol Olivera read the best wishes published in the souvenir.

Ramban G M Skaria released the silver jubilee souvenir on the occasion.

Fr P A Johnson distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions held during Christmas festivities. Mother Mary Group felicitated Kallianpur Milagres College professor Florine D’Silva for having awarded M Phil degree from Alagappa University, Tamil Nadu, recently.

Church youth members led the prayers. St Thomas Youth Association president Navin Barnes welcomed the guests with bouquets. Tweeny Rodrigues compered the programme.

Later a cultural programme consisting of Konkani, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil songs, dances and Konkani skits was staged. Popular singers Prakash Mahadevan, Vijay Vas, Reshma, Naveen Koppa and Harriete Braganza enthralled the audience with their melodious singing.  Rib-tickling jokes by Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto succeeded in keeping the audience glued to their seats to the end. While Bhargavi dance troupe from Udupi was the centre of attraction, compere Walston Pangla's wit and spontaneous humour was well-appreciated by all.
