Hubli, Jan 22: Melver Lobo, an eighth standard student of St Michael's High School, Keshwapur, Hubli was a member of the National Level Basket Ball Tournament (Under  14), which was held recently in Satara, Maharashtra.

Incidentally he has also been selected for the National Level Net Ball Tournament, Under 14.

Melver and Denver

He took to playing basketball on his own from the sixth standard onwards and has had no access to any other coaching except that is provided by the school.  He himself coaches his friends and has inspired many of them to take interest in the sport.

He studied in Milagres PU College Mangalore up to the fifth standard and is brilliant academically too, scoring not less than 96% marks consistently.

Melver is the son of Lancy and Grace Lobo of Falnir, Mangalore, both of whom are working in State Bank of India, Hubli at present.

His elder brother Denver Lobo is also a good basketball player and is presently studying in the second year PU class. In January 2008, Denver had represented North Karnataka for the French Indian Idol (national level singing competition in French titled 'Idole Indienne') held in Hyderabad. The event was organized by the French embassy.

Both play the guitar excellently and are good singers. They are active members of the Church choir.
