Abu Dhabi, Jan 23 :  Mangalore Konkans - Dubai, UAE’s top Throw Ball Team won the prestigious Koosamma Shambu Shetty Memorial Trophy (Open to All) in a spectacular manner at the Abu Dhabi Indian School premises this evening.

The thrilling encounter between Jashan of Dubai and Mangalore Konkans was indeed was awesome and was played with lots of stamina and gusto.

Though the rain played a spoilt sport at the end, the organizers awarded the coveted Trophy to Mangalore Konkans considering their performance.  Mangalore Konkans in the final won the first game and followed by both teams scoring 10 points each, when the rain interrupted play.  The Organizers in consultation with the Referee, Team Management  came to a wise conclusion by awarding the trophy to Mangalore Konkans for their brilliant play and overall performance considering the game they won, which they rightly deserved.  Jashan of Dubai too had their share of outstanding performance and gave a tough fight to Mangalore Konkans in their final encounter.

Shetty and his wife Dr.(Mrs)Chandrakumari BR Shetty  by releasing of  colourful balloons and starting the tournament with inaugural match between Bunts Dubai and Bunts Abu Dhabi, by symbolic passing the ball by  the Shetty Couple.

The success of the tournament goes mainly due to the extraordinary efforts of  veteran Sarvotham Shetty – President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, whose untiring dedication and  love for the game has gained affection of large number of people.  Sarvotham who is a popular figure in all spheres  and is well known figure all over UAE for his simplicity and vigour , is  instrumental for the tremendous success of the exciting tournament.  He was ably assisted by his dedicated committee members.

The prize distribution was held at the Abu Dhabi Indian School Auditorium attended by large crowd.  Richard D’Souza – Treasurer of  Abu Dhabi Indian School spoke on the occasion applauding and appreciating the efforts of Dr. B. R. Shetty in encouraging sports  for the love of his mother.  He also wished that the game may be spread all over by more teams participating and attaining an international status.  B.R  Shetty thanked the participating team for their fairplay and sporting spirit.

Dear Rudolph, Raymond, thank you for the constructive feed back. I did not say to have Indian names, but names like "Lotus India", in my opinion would have been better than having names of a particular community or language. My apologies to you or any one who might have felt offended from my suggestions.

Dear Dusty, be specific and let them know which names are not secular, so that they can change their team names. Also your name Dusty doesn't sound Indian as well. Why don't you think of indianising your name.

Its really great to see the enthusiasm shown by so many teams in the Koosamma Shetty throwball tournament. I would have been happier , however, if the teams bore secular names true to the image of India. We Indians living outside India, can be  role models for Indians, living in India.
