Dubai, Jan 26: Konkani entertainment lovers will witness one of the toughest talent contests in the UAE on Friday January 30. Nine groups from around UAE will compete for the prestigious ‘Daiji Dubai 10th Anniversary Trophy’ and a cash prize.

The variety entertainment-talent contest will begin at the Indian Consulate Hall on Friday from 9.30 am and will go on till the evening.

Daiji Dubai convener Hemacharya disclosed the names of the three-member jury panel, all of whom are experts in the field of entertainment

“There is a lot of expectation from the audience and participants about the Daiji Dubai talent contest. We have no choice but to invite a neutral jury panel from abroad. Often, there are complaints at the end of the day about favouritism when a local jury is nominated”, said Hemacharya, speaking to Daijiworld.com.

Eddi Sequiera, Lancy Pinto Nayak, and Clarence Kaikamba

He said that the panel members are Eddi Sequiera from Doha, Lancy Pinto Nayak from Kuwait, and Clarence Kaikamba from Muscat.

Sequiera is a well-known Konkani compere, writer, actor, director, poet and community leader with more than a hundred ‘Wilfy Nite’ stints as compere to his credit. He is also an award winning actor and director. ‘Porath Ek Pautim’, a play written and directed by Sequiera, has won many awards at the state-level in India. He is currently based in Doha and is an active member of the Mangalore Cricket Club and edits the Doha Church news bulletin.

Nayak, known as an all-rounder in Konkani literature, writes short stories, novels, poems, and plays. Recently, he has been in the limelight for his skills in directing plays. Nayak also conducts a regular workshop to train budding actors. His writings have fetched Nayak numerous laurels in the form of awards.

Currently residing in Kuwait, Nayak is the founder member of ‘Konkani Kulvar Kuwait’ and is also the present convener of the organization.

Clarence, meanwhile, is the undisputed leader in the Muscat Konkani community. Hailing from Kaikamba, his short stories and novels are popular with the readers. Clarence is also a good compere and orator but is better known for his work behind the screens. He is also a playwright and represents Daijiworld.com in the Sultanate of Oman.

Along with non-stop entertainment, the contest will also have songs during the intervals. Rony Byndoor and his team of singers will entertain the audience, in between performances, while the stage is set up for the next set of contestants.

Daiji Rangmandir will perfomr some of the finest skits at the end of the day prior to the prize distribution ceremony, which is to be held from 6 pm to 7 pm.

Dayan D’Souza, main co-ordinator of the event, promised that it is going to be a professional one as all nine performing teams are practicing hard to gain the upper hand.

“Since there is a slowdown in the economy, many people are tense and people need a break with good entertainment that doesn’t cost much. This is the perfect opportunity for them as the entire day is filled with variety entertainment, songs, skits, dances, and other entertainment”, said Dayan.

He appealed people to occupy the seats well in advance to avoid any disappointments later. The list of groups which will take part in the talent competition and the schedule of their performances is given below:
