Moodbidri, Jan 26: The seventh annual Koti-Chennaya Jodukere Kambala which went under way on Saturday January 24, was inaugurated with the offering of prayers as per Hindu, Muslim and Christian customs at Veera Ramo Annalla Heritage Village, Ontikatte.  Alangar Mahalingeshwara Temple priest Vedamurti Eshwar Bhat, Alangar church priest Fr Vincent D'Souza and Puttige Janab E M Shaffi Sab performed the prayers.

Earlier in the day, the Prasadam from Puttige Ontikatte Ayyappa temple, Jodukatte Garadi and Alangar temple were offered to the venue of the Kambala as per tradition.

Kuldeep M of Moodbidri Chowta family presided over the inaugural. Traditional honour by way tender coconuts and betel leaves, were offered to the owners of the buffalo pairs which took part in the Kambala. Kambala Samiti president and MLA Abhaychandra Jain, general secretary Gunapal Kadamba K, treasurer Bhaskar S Kotian etc., were present.


 

The results of Kambala that was held through out Saturday and Sunday were announced at 7.30 pm on Sunday.

K Gunapal Kadamba was the chief juror of the Kambala buffalo race while others were Yedtoor Rajeev Shetty, Mugarodi Sudhakar Shetty, Kanginamane Vijayakumar, Nagri Sankappa Shetty, Dr C P Athikari, Umesh Bajagoli, Sarapady Adiraj Jain, and Sainath Kattage.
 
Buffalo-handlers were Renajala Pajala Satish Shetty, Kukkundoor ShankarBettu Shankar Madivala, Kervase Narayan Bangera, Bangadi Sudhish Kumar Ariga, Allipade Appu and Valerian D’ Sa. Video juror was Video Manjari Udupi.
 
Tahsildar Abijin Jain, forest officer P Sridar, M Narayan Devadiga, Premanand Prabhu, Sampat Samrajya, and P B Ibrahim, were the guests of honour.
 
Assistant forest conservator Manjunath Shetty presided over the valedictory ceremony. 
 
Kadalakare Nisargadama secretary Gunapal Kadamba welcomed and proposed the vote of thanks. Vijayakumar Kanginnaya compered the programme.

    I was a follower of kambala before leaving to jordan.In the results you mentioned runner-rup.No need to write that.First name is of the owners and second name is of racer.Please remove the runner-up from all categories.

    i heard from my dad about kambala, but i have not yet seen. i will be missing the same. Hope i will be visiting next year.

    Daiji thank you for giving us detailed report about our age old traditinal game.In these days we are really missing our rich customs and traditions by influence of wesdternisation and other factors.We the younger generation of S K,and Udupi destrict with the help of our media should try for the upliftment of these traditional games.

    Just Awesome pictures. First of all thanks Daiji....i feel sad that i missed the beautiful moments of the kambala. Every year I used to take part in the Kambala. Growing up from an agriculturist family I have a lot of attachment with this special event called kambala. Now I have some sweet memories with my friends going to the kambala. I really missed it. I hope I can make it to moodbidri for next years kambala. Congrats to all the winners. Just classic pics .Thanks daiji for the beautiful coverage.
