Udupi: State Government Tackling Issues Relating to Basic Needs First – Dr Acharya

Udupi, Jan 26: District-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, in his message to the citizens during the Republic Day celebrations held at the Ajjarkad Mahatma Gandhi grounds on Monday January 26 morning, said that the  BJP-led state government  has been making efforts to solve several problems since the past eight  months.  It has prioritized its programmes towards providing most essential amenities such as roads and drinking water, thereby attempting to take the state ahead of other states in the country, in terms of development, he explained. 
 
Meanwhile, some of the evil forces in the society are trying to hinder the progress by attempting to disturb the law and order situation in the state.  Hence the general public needs to exhibit their will power, and live harmoniously as the children of Mother India.  This would benefit the society and the country.  Moreover, awareness on stemming terrorism should be created in educational institutions and the general public should keep an eye on strangers who frequent their neighbourhood, Dr Acharya advised.

Janaspandana (mass contact) programme of the government has been a huge success, as it was a move by the state government to take the government programmes to the rural masses.  The conferring of classical status to Kannada language by the union government has raised the status and honour of the language.  The conferring of Padmashree awards to seven distinguished personalities from the state has brought great honour to all the Kannadigas'.  Besides, undivided Dakshina Kannada district is proud of Bollywood actor Aishwarya Abhishek Bacchan, scholar Bannanje Govind Acharya and  NRI Dr B R Shetty for bagging Padmashree awards, he said.
 
MLA Raghupati Bhat, zilla panchayat president Raju Poojary, taluk panchayat president Geeta G Prabhu, Udupi Development Authority (UDA) chairman  Sudhakar Shetty, deputy commissioner (DC) Hemalata P, superintendent of police (SP) Praveen Madhukar Pawar, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Prasanna Kumar, UDA commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present on the occasion.
 
Promising athletes and retired armed forces personnel from all over the district were honoured during the programme.
 
Variety cultural events were held by the school children after the stage programme.
