Mangalore: Astronomers’ Association Helps Students View Solar eclipse

Mangalore, Jan 26: The Amateur Astronomers’ Association arranged for a telescope for the students to view the solar eclipse today at St Agnes College.            

Some students of the college watched the solar eclipse which was seen here from 2.41 pm to 3.44 pm. 

“We arranged the telescope for interested students to watch the solar eclipse”, said Prof K V Narayana, head of science centre, Pilikula, and president of the Association. 

It helps the students avoid superstitious beliefs, said  Prof Jayanth, St Agnes College, who also described  the eclipse to the students.    

The Association has a telescope with a five-inch diameter, and is often used by members to study the sky and eclipses.

Udupi: Thousands View Partial Solar Eclipse

Udupi, Jan 26: The District Amateur Astronomers’ Association made arrangements for viewing the partial solar eclipse at Poornaprajna College on the afternoon of Monday January 26. 

Amateur astronomer Venkataramana Upadhyaya of Saligrama delivered a talk on planetary movements and solar eclipses that was attended by school and college students and astronomy enthusiasts. 

Association convener A P Bhat, addressing the gathering said that Upadhyaya has plans to distribute 100 pinhole cameras to schools across the district, of which 30 such cameras had already been delivered to schools. It was done to mark the international year of astronomy, he added.
