Mangalore: Mandd Sobhann Institutes 'First Global Konkani Music Awards'

Mangalore, Jan 27: Mandd Sobhann has decided to celebrate the first anniversary of the first Konkani entry into the Guinness Book of World Records in the form of the Konkani Nirantari, in a unique way. It has instituted the 'First Global Konkani Music Awards' to celebrate the occasion in a memorable way.

Eligibility: Any Konkani vocal music album, either devotional or non-devotional, released for sale in the year 2008 ( January to December) anywhere in the world, in any dialect of Konkani, sung by any one belonging to any religious and communal denomination, is eligible for being considered for the awards.

 


This was announced by Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, at a press conference held in the city on Tuesday January 27 morning.

Five awards have been instituted this year.  The awards will be given away under the following categories:

1. Best Konkani Singer, Female – 2008
2. Best Konkani Singer, Male – 2008
3. Best Konkani Lyricist-2008 
4. Best Konkani Music Composer – 2008 
5. Best Konkani Music Album - 2008 

The awards will consist of –

(a) The title 
(b) Cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-(each Award)
(c) Public honour at the grand awards Ceremony

The winners will be selected strictly on the basis of applications or nominations received.  A panel of very eminent musicians, chosen from different parts of India, will select the winners.

Last date for the submission of applications will be February 28, 2009.  Awards ceremony will be held on May 10, 2009 at Kalaangann.

Sri Marian Lazarus D’Souza of Kuwait is the inspiration behind the institution of these awards and the sponsor of the cash awards, a release from Mandd Sobhann said. 

Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto, entrepreneur Ronald Gomes and Stany Alvares were also present at the press conference.

    Clifford is right. its such a short notice. considering CDs also from 2007 would atleast be a good idea!

    Great initiative!! Well done. This is indeed something that was never done before, but I believe that its never too late to introduce something new, which for sure will be very well accepted by the Konkani fraternity. Good luck to your organisation...may you see many applications!!Please continue to see this initiative roll over every year & let it not fade out after the 1st year of introduction..All the very best!!

    It is a good step towards recognizing and encouraging good talent in the field of Konkan Sangeeth. Since this is the first time these awards are being instituted, why not consider albums from the last five years? By restricting this to just the last year, many eligible talent will miss out on the awards. Next year onwards, you can do it yearly.

    if this Any Konkani vocal music album, either devotional or non-devotional, released for sale in the year 2008 ( January to December) we are missing we cant bring out the good project yearly so pls alow to participet all ho made cd,s before clifford
