The late Blasius D’Souza Memorial Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District-level flood-lit body building competitions were held on Tuesday January 27 at Nehru Maidan. It was organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Congress in four divisions, height-wise.
 
Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the body building competitions on Tuesday night.
 
Former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty presided over the programme.  B A Moideen, Mamata Gatti, Hemanath Shetty, Kripa Amar Alva, Blasius D’Souza's sons Anup D’Souza, Rohit D’Souza and daughter Laveena D’Souza, Body Builders Association state secretary Chandramouli, secretary Mahesh Kumar, and Raymond D’Souza of Mr World fame, were the chief guests on the occasion.
 
Competitions organizer and lawyer Ivan D’Souza welcomed the gathering. T K Sudhir proposed the vote of thanks.
 
Former union finance minister B Janardhan Poojary presented the ‘Mr Dakshina Kannada – 2009’ award and urged the district administration to rename the Maidan as ‘Late Blasius D’Souza Memorial’, during the concluding ceremony.
 
MLA K Abayachandra Jain presided over the concluding ceremony. 
 
MLA U T Khader, K S M Masood, Blossom Oscar Fernandes, Moideen Bava, Felix D’ Souza Taccode, corporators, were also present. Jude Noronha compered the programme.

Alwyn Pal of Mangalore Six Code Gym bagged the ‘Mr Dakshina Kannada-2009’ trophy while Moodbidri Vijay took home the ‘Most Muscular’ trophy.
