Belagavi, Feb 15: A student of the Government Polytechnic College here jumped to his death from atop the college building on Thursday February 14. The police suspect that the student killed himself, having been dejected over the rejection of his feeling of love by a girl student of the same college.

The student who lost his life was Shivaprasad Pawar (20) hailing from Nippani town. He was a fourth semester student of civil department of the college.

It is gathered that Shivaprasad was in love with a girl student of his department since a year. He had told his friends that he would propose to the girl on Valentine's Day. He arrived at his class at 9 am, but was not seen thereafter. The police suspect that during this period, he would have tried to propose to the girl he loved and that she would have rejected him. They also guess that having been disappointed over the girl's failure to reciprocate his feelings for her, he would have ended his life.

Shivaprasad's friends knew about his feeling of love. It is said that Shivaprasad was good both in studies and extra curricular activities. As his parents were no more, he used to continue with his studies by working on part time basis in Dhaba and shops after college hours, his friends revealed.

A case relating to this suicide was registered at Khade Bazar police station here.
