Udupi, Jan 31: The policemen could establish the identity of  the person who died in an encounter with them near Gurpur in the wee hours on Friday as Dhananjay Poojary, an aide of  Ravi Poojary, only after Sathish Bhandary and Nagesh Shetty, accused in the Kuloor shoot-out case, who are on bail now established his identity. When the body of the killed man was showed to them, they identified him.  The police now say that Dhananjay was the man who had fired gun shots in the Worldwide Shipping office in Kulur some time back.

Dhananjay was the only son of Hariappa Kotian and Gulabi, who live in a small house in Kellar of Nandikoor, in front of the church in Palimar. Dhananjay Poojary (31) alias Dhananjay Kotian, who was said to have been known in Mumbai circles as Dhananjay Shetty, had born after his parents, who had no issues till then, prayed to the Lord for children and took religious vows.

The parents were not aware of what had befallen on their only child, till the evening on Friday. The neighbourers, who came to know the news through the media, were hesitant to break the news, as Poojary's father suffers from cardiac ailments and mother is an innocent woman.  It is gathered that Dhananjay who studied in Palimar school till high school level, went to Mumbai without even consulting his parents. He visited home a couple of years ago. His visits thereafter were irregular. He had given a mobile phone to parents to keep in touch with him. Even though the parents used to say that he visited them now and then, the neighbourers have not seen him since the last some years. Hence, they could not identify him even after seeing the photo in the newspapers. Most of them saw him only when he was young.

His mother Gulabi says, her son told her that he was in Mumbai before shifting to Bangalore a year back. "He visited us every 15 days and gave us money. We do not know much about what he does," she claimed. The small hut, in which the couple lives, was tiled recently. With the help of the local panchayat, a toilet and bathroom is being provided to the family, both of which are under construction. The family's ration card bears Dhananjay's name.
