Shimoga: Court Orders Fresh Probe into Death of Yeddyurappa’s Wife

Shimoga, Feb 1: A court in Shimoga has ordered the Doddapet police to reinvestigate the case of death of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's wife and submit a detailed report by March 31.

The court of the second JMFC passed the order on a petition filed by lawyer Sheshadri, who had named seven persons - Yeddyurappa, his two sons, daughter Aruna Devi and three servants - as being responsible for Mythra Devi's death on October 16, 2004.

The lawyer had claimed that there was a conspiracy to murder Mythra Devi, that the parties involved had fabricated evidence, and that they were trying to get the police to file a B-report. Mythra Devi was believed to have drowned and died in a water tank in front of their house in Vinoba Nagar here. A post-mortem report said she had died due to drowning.

However, the police mahazar had noted that the water tank was 8 feet deep, with an opening of 1x1 foot. The water level was 4 feet at the time of the incident, and Mytra Devi's height was 5 feet and 5 inches. A tap just below the chamber cover would have made it difficult for anyone to fall into the tank.
