Oman Billawas enjoy grand family get-together

Oman, Feb 26: Oman Billawas living in the Sultanate of Oman recently commemorated their tenth year with a grand ‘Family Day’ celebration at Al Esry Farm House, Barka, here.

This full day event was organized to bring about unity amongst the members. Various sports activities and fun/skill games were conducted during the day, which evinced keen interest among the members, especially the women and children.

Titled ‘Oman Billawas Kutumba Samagama 2019’, the event showcased the community’s cultural heritage. This being the first outdoor event of the year, was a perfect opportunity to bring one and all together for fun, exercise, participate and enjoyment. This has further helped to build relationships, friendships and mutual support systems amongst the members.

The sports event was inaugurated by the following young Billawa achievers: Neev Jayprakash and Nihal Jayprakash (under 19 cricket team players), Kritika Vittal Poojary (represented Oman women volleyball team) and Kiran Anchan (completed all his exams of ACCA in the first attempt).



Before the inauguration, a minute of silence was observed by all to pay homage to the Indian jawans who lost their lives in Pulwama. The following games were organized for various age groups:

Kids - Running Race, Chocolate Count, Throwing the Ball, Ball on Legs, Frog Race, Marbles and Straw and Lemon and Spoon.

Ladies - One Legged Race, Needle and Thread, Lemon and Spoon, Donka, Talent Hunt and Tug of War.

Men - One Legged Race, Sack Race, Running Race (age above 50), Lagori and Tug of War.

The sports committee members efficiently managed the show. The event was hosted by Umesh Jeppu, Rishikesh Amin, Akshata Rishikesh Amin, Gangadhar Poojary, Amruth Poojary and Srinivas Poojary who kept the crowd entertained with jokes, anecdotes and spot prize questions. The participants involved in the activities with full enthusiasm, making the event a success. Breakfast, lunch and snacks were served to all the members. The sumptuous chicken sukka served at lunch and Goli Baje, served at tea time, were prepared by Bhaskar and team.

The winners were congratulated and awarded medals. The spirit of oneness was further showcased with music to the all-time favorite Tiger Dance. To conclude, ten utility gifts were given away as raffle prizes based on lucky draw.

Vice president Suhan thanked all concerned. He also thanked the sponsors who had supported the event through their contributions in various ways: Manohar Salian, Suchethana, Shanker Uppoor, Vijay (Raha), Harish Poojary, K N Anchan, Gangadhar Poojary, Uttam Kotian, Sandeep (D J), Prakash (MCT Pharmacy), Prapulla Praveen, Sapna Vittal, Rohidas Manjeshwar, Sudhakar Poojary, team Sohar, team Nizwa, Jithu and team, Bhaskar and team, Prakash (SBG) and also two other well-wishers.

Oman Billawas believe in the importance of sports, which brings about unity and team spirit among the community. Such sports and games help all to develop mental and physical toughness while also allowing them the opportunity to have fun.

The following upcoming events are being planned. Blood donation camp on Friday March 8 (2.00 pm to 7.00 pm), Oman Billawas Premier League Cricket Tournament on Friday March 15 (full day event) and Oman Billawas tenth year annual get-together on Friday April 19 (full day event).
