Kundapur, Mar 5: Illegal sand extraction activity has been going on at Molahalli near Hunsemakki in the taluk since long. The people associated with this activity had succeeded in evading action.

During the late night hours on Sunday March 3, a police team led by Karkala assistant superintendent of police, Krishnakanth, based on reliable information received by the superintendent of police, Nisha James, formed a special team. He raided the sand dock that had been illegally created at Molahalli Kailkere and took into possession ten boats, a truck and two cars. The raiding team also took into custody over 20 people including workers engaged to extract sand.

Anil Kumar Shetty (49) who was pooling sand with the help of a rented boat, Hariprasad Shetty (37) who allowed illegal sand to be stocked in the land belonging to him, Bharath Shetty (32) who used to load sand on trucks and fix their destinations, apart from Suresh Kumar (34), Jayaprakash (33), Anoop Shjettyu (38), Rajesh Shetty and Umesh besides workers were among those who were arrested and booked.
