Mangaluru: Murder attempt, robbery of woman - accused held

Mangaluru, Mar 5: A person who tried to kill a woman at Tenka Yekkar in the taluk and relieved her of her belongings, was arrested by the police from Kompadavu Nelligudde here on Monday March 4.

The arrested man has been identified as Sunil (35) from Tenka Yekkar. He has been accused of attacking and badly injuring Tanuja from the same village.

Tanuja, who works as a daily wager, was returning to her home at Tenka Yekkar after finishing her work near Permude at 5.30 pm on February 28, when the accused attacked her with a cudgel. Tanuja fell to the ground and lost consciousness due to the attack. The accused is said to have taken away the lady's cellphone and cash of Rs 1,000 in her possession, before fleeing. A case in this connection had been registered in Bajpe police station.

Bajpe police, who got information that Sunil was at a spot at Nelligudde in Kompadavu village where a Yakshagana performance was in progress, raided the spot and took the accused into custody. After questioning him, he was produced in the court whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody.

The operation was conducted by Bajpe station house officer, S Parashivamurty, and police sub-inspector, Shankar Nairy, under lthe guidance of assistant commissioner of polcie, Srinivas Gowda.
