Bengaluru: M M Kalburgi assassination - SIT begins probe

Bengaluru, Mar 5: The special investigation team (SIT),which has claimed to have successfully cracked journalist, Gauri Lankesh's mysterious murder case, officially began its investigation into the murder of researcher and former vice chancellor of Hampi Kannada University, M M Kalburgi, from Monday March 4.

SIT has taken up the case in tune with the Supreme Court directions. The team's first ever meeting was conducted on Monday under the leadership of investigating officer, Anuchet, who happens to be an IPS officer. The SIT, which discussed about the progress of investigation so far, will decide about the future action plan in the next meeting.

Supreme Court had observed that there were some similarities in the way Gauri Lankesh and Kalburgi were assassinated. It had suggested for the SIT to also conduct probe into Kalburgi murder case during its recent hearing.
